100%. They aren't introducing the midseason draft, so that LESS players can move clubs. We'll see bad teams becoming "sellers" and good teams will be "buyers". I'm actually against a MSD, but that's a whole different thing.I'm disappointed we lost Acres and Schultz as they would both be quite important now (Logue as back up for injured Chapman but that's not realistic). That is all.
Meanwhile we traded in the unicorn, Clark, Aish, Sharp, JOM, Brodie, who are, or have been, or will be integral in our 22 and currently on our list.
Must be February when the sky falls in cause not sure what the issue is. Every team loses players. The AFL actively encourages it.
Just because the West likes to pump it up, not sure we need to get sucked in and think heads should roll.
It was unacceptable that North beat us last year. If that game plan and performance comes out early then the season will be effectively over very early no matter who we're playing and JL will be on borrowed time the next 3-4 months after that.North beat us last year, but I agree, we should win that one. 2-4 should be the minimum. Win one of the others at home and we might be starting to build something. 4-2 should see us hit the bye with 5~ losses.
I don't think we could cop it 2 years in a row, but this stuff happens every year. There's a reason why no team ever goes winless. It was unacceptable that North beat us last year. Okay maybe I'm putting too much on one game but if you can't beat one of the worst teams of our time after rebuilding since 2016 there's something seriously wrong and I wouldn't put it all on the playing list.
It wasn't so much losing that was disappointing last year in that game. It was how we played. We lost that game solely because we played too slow for 3 and a half quarters then almost snatched it in ten minutes playing how we should've been playing all game. It left me rather frustrated to say the least.I don't think we could cop it 2 years in a row, but this stuff happens every year. There's a reason why no team ever goes winless.
The Eagles beat GWS - it happens.
I reckon that's what every team that loses to someone that **** says. Obviously if you played well, you wouldn't lose, because the other team is terrible. It wasn't so much losing that was disappointing last year in that game. It was how we played. If we play like that again the team will need a few wins on the board first otherwise the pitchforks will be out for JL early.
I agree with you in the main but our slow, boring, predictable ball movement is well known to commentators across the league, it's not something that you need purple glasses to get frustrated by. Then you dish it up week after week after week...I reckon that's what every team that loses to someone that **** says. I don't think you'll find a fan/pundit anywhere that doesn't think we need more speed on the ball on turnover.I agree with you in the main but our slow, boring, predictable ball movement is well known to commentators across the league, it's not something that you need purple glasses to get frustrated by. Was that the game the ump didn't know the out of bounds rule?It wasn't so much losing that was disappointing last year in that game. It was how we played. We pulled back 3-4 goals in the last ten minutes playing exactly how I said we should've been playing in the first place.I reckon that's what every team that loses to someone that **** says. Obviously if you played well, you wouldn't lose, because the other team is terrible.
Oh it's definitely frustrating, I just don't think its particularly special. We pulled back 3-4 goals in the last ten minutes playing exactly how I said we should've been playing in the first place.
It took until it was too late for the team to make any adjustments to game style. That was the most frustrating thing.
It's frustrating and wasn't the only game where we started taking some risks when we were a long way behind on the scoreboard.Oh it's definitely frustrating, I just don't think its particularly special.
Lets just hope we don't whip it out this year.
The umpiring was responsible for 1% of that NM loss. We have to own it fair and square. Was that the game the ump didn't know the out of bounds rule?
It was after the 2022 trade period and Young walked all of Lobb, Acres and Logue out of the club that JLo said enough is enough and dumped him. Henry and Hamling were the collateral damage of that decision.I thought he broke with young a while back. Thats why we are beefing with him. Thats probably why he is fairly forceable in getting guys like Henry, Lobb and Logue to other clubs.
You just know Clarkson & Lyon are going to come out & play chicken with us. They’ll tell their players to play on at all costs & try to get us on the back foot playing scared. The umpiring was responsible for 1% of that NM loss. We have to own it fair and square.
Teams drop winnable games from time to time but that was a disgraceful performance AND it wasn't simply an 'off week', we were terrible in the opening weeks of 2023. It looked like we got ahead of ourselves, believed in the plan, whatever that was, and just kept overthinking and banging away at it despite contrary evidence mounting week after week. Those who say, 'No, we were a young team and we lost Mundy etc' are not completely wrong but they fail to explain how we then got on two decent streaks rds 8-11 and rds 20-24. We lost 2 of our last 5 games of the season and this was by only 3 and 16 points to Top 4 sides.
We absolutely showed in 2022 and 2023 that we had the personnel to be Top 8. But in 2023 we lost too many games displaying a slow, off-the-pace style that the leadership and coaches must own.
Henry maybe but not Hamling. We offered Hamling 1 year on the rookie list. Sydney offered a much better offer and it would be negligent for Young or any manager to not explore an option like that.It was after the 2022 trade period and Young walked all of Lobb, Acres and Logue out of the club that JLo said enough is enough and dumped him. Henry and Hamling were the collateral damage of that decision.
I agree with you and a further irritating thing from the coaching of that game was that Walters sat on the bench with a sub vest watching almost three full quarters of a forward unit in purple masquerading as an AFL standard attack, before being brought on as a sub far too late and still nearly winning us the game. If he was fit to play at 3QT after coming back from a hamstring injury, he was good enough to play from HT. Heck I would have brought him on at QT, we were that diabolical that day.We pulled back 3-4 goals in the last ten minutes playing exactly how I said we should've been playing in the first place.
It took until it was too late for the team to make any adjustments to game style. That was the most frustrating thing.
Yes alas we did. Garlick admitted this at the Annual Members Meeting. Yet -'who among us is not' etc etc....It was criminal because he was easily B22 at the time and in a role we didn't have experience or depth in. He left us and continued his strong form. I and others have said we also missed his defensive run, marking and strength. Longmuir pointed that out last week when on with Haselby. We botched it.
At least they admitted they stuffed it. Means that it can be analysed and measures put in to hopefully not do it againYes alas we did. Garlick admitted this at the Annual Members Meeting. Yet -'who among us is not' etc etc....
