Yeah dropping hand grenades in the media whilst applying for a senior coaching position is at best very dumb and if he wasn't already ruled out, that should be the nail in the coffin.Pardon the intrusion ... Given the traditional sentiments about Peter Sumich, along the lines of:
... I was pretty curious about whether the perceptions had changed much after his recent comments on the Willie Rioli thing.
At a purely superficial level I figured it would play pretty well among the Freo faithful - a la:
I appreciate some good inter-club trolling as much as the next guy.
But I also think it was a particularly poor piece of judgement on his part to weigh in the way he did. That seems to be the more prevalent reaction here as well. eg.
Not that I expect any benefit of the doubt for the Eagles' "culture" or whatever, but I still think he was drawing a pretty long bow. That kind of pure speculation might be par for the course for the AFL media these days, but for a guy with senior coaching aspirations I think it's some very poor judgement. (Not Rioli-level-poor, granted).
A couple of weeks ago I figured Longmuir was a formality but this has become an interesting race now with some good names in the mix. Latest odds I saw still had Suma as 2nd-favourite, which surprised me a little. The troll in me is still barracking for him to get the gig, but I think it's very unlikely. I mean if for whatever reason J-Lo didn't impress, then even ignoring the other potential candidates you'd take Pyke over Sumich in a heartbeat, surely.
Or they've spotted Clarkson looking at Houses in Adelaide.Adelaide betting market removed from Sportsbet, basically means Scott Burns is a lock.
Simpson lashes Sumich's 'slap in the face'
West Coast coach Adam Simpson says club great Peter Sumich has effectively given the players a "slap in the face" over his "unfounded" comments about potential drug use at the club.www.theage.com.au
Sumich burning bridges in anticipation of coaching Fremantle
This annoys me greatly, we have had several weeks to look into the coach we want and Burns easily has the best resume out of everyone.Adelaide betting market removed from Sportsbet, basically means Scott Burns is a lock.
Makes you think. If Worsfold still had head coaching aspirations after 2020, he is probably considering a move now. 5 coaches have gone down this year with 2 open positions left, and one of those is back in Perth where his family is. Next year, Hinkley may go, but not sure if there would be any others. Might make him push forward his plans given the situation? Not that I'm endorsing Worsfold for the Freo job, just thinking he may throw his hat in the ring?So looks like Truck Rutten is confirmed at the Bombers from 2021
Didn't Sportsbet also payout a stack of punters who bet on a Labor victory the day before the election (which basically prompted a whole heap of them to take the winnings and plonk it on the Coalition)? I wouldn't be taking their markets as gospel (or maybe it is very much like the gospel(s)).This annoys me greatly, we have had several weeks to look into the coach we want and Burns easily has the best resume out of everyone.
That's fair, though I'd imagine coaching odds work a little differently. There would be guys who look to make a killing on inside mail, I sure as hell would be.Didn't Sportsbet also payout everyone who bet on a Labor victory the day before the election (which basically prompted a whole heap of them to take the winnings and plonk it on the Coalition)? I reckon Worsfold might be mad keen on a Director of Coaching role in WA. It'd mean less travel and suit him as a steady hand and big-picture guy who has pretty much relied on others to come up with any onfield tactical edge. There may not be a position like that anyways and if there were he'd need to weigh that against going around one last season as head coach.Makes you think. The liquidity of these markets is ridiculously small. I'd doubt they would allow bets over $100, and certainly not any decent amount if you have successful betting history. That's fair, though I'd imagine coaching odds work a little differently. Looks like they may have gotten a big bet on Burns and wrapped it up
The Crows are saying that they haven't finalised their selection panel yet. Although apparently Ricciuto has met with him, which might've set the markets into reset mode, given Ricciuto's power at the club. Burns promising others he'll take them with him could easily just be preemptive. That's fair, though I'd imagine coaching odds work a little differently. Sounds Like Scott Burns is sounding out assistant coaches to help him take on the Hawthorn Coaching position when Clarkson comes over west to the Dockers.!The bolded bit was mentioned elsewhere a month or so ago which made me wonder if he was linked to Freo
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Michelangelo Rucci is hearing word that Scott Burns is already preparing a coaching staff for a potential senior role.
The former Collingwood midfielder is being strongly linked with the Adelaide Crows vacancy while remaining loosely hitched to the open post at Fremantle.
According to what Rucci is being told, the current Hawthorn assistant is attempting to assemble his personnel for a top job.
“The interesting thing that is being said around the place for more than a fortnight, I’ll relay it as it’s relayed to me,” he said on SEN SA’s Kymbo & the Rooch.
“Scott Burns has been saying to certain assistant coaches around the competition, ‘Do not sign a deal at your club because you’re coming with me to a major job’.
“That’s what’s being said. Now is that at Adelaide or is that at Fremantle?
“He’s on a promise somewhere by the sounds of it.”
Co-host Kym Dillon responded: “If it’s factually right, he’s clearly in it up to his eyeballs if that’s the case.”
Rucci and Dillon then pondered another name that could potentially be in the mix to replace Don Pyke at the Crows.
Dillon said: “Will we see a late play for David Noble after that compelling case by Terry Wallace?”
To which Rucci replied: “That was very strong.
“The I more listen to that, the more I’m convinced it’s the way to go. It’s an endorsement.
“It’s got so many good things about it. He knows the landscape he’s entering, he becomes a calming influence on a club that needs it, (he’s) experienced, (has) understanding of what the role requires and what South Australia is all about.
“Give me a reason why you wouldn’t do it?”
That's fair, though I'd imagine coaching odds work a little differently. There would be guys who look to make a killing on inside mail, I sure as hell would be.

How do you know that? We have our processes and are going through them. Adelaide look like they had this planned for awhile even if all the rhetoric from them and Pyke says otherwise. This annoys me greatly, we have had several weeks to look into the coach we want and Burns easily has the best resume out of everyone.
The fact is that Sumich hasn't coached at an AFL level except at Freo for nearly 10 years. He left WC in 2011.I was pretty curious about whether the perceptions had changed much after his recent comments on the Willie Rioli thing.

Reasonable CV and i thought would have been a strong chance for us. Don't recall any media linking him to our job at all. Good luck to him.
