I disagree. Lyon's press conferences were great. He almost always summed up the game up in his first answer, giving all the relevant factors in a detailed and informative manner. Then often the journalists would go for simplistic stuff that was obvious. I liked his style of delivery too, with dry wit subtle humour, with a scathing edge. Longmuir is a nice guy but for media purposes he better toughen up. though winning solves all but if things get tough he better have great patience or develop a personality

All good. Personally I felt embarrassed as a supporter when we were floundering near the bottom half of the ladder and our coach was still acting like his shit didn’t stink during pressers.

I agree with you though that JLo will have to get a thick skin and quickly.

They said he was the best interviewed and bonus was he was a Freo boy. Give him a chance ffs
They only interviewed 3 people.. two who are ex Fremantle and one who is a WA boy.

There's a lot to like there. Particularly the continuous development talk, as I feel like that's a big area we've failed in recently - wildly swinging between the extremes of complete rebuild and topping up to challenge. Good they seem to be striking a balance between reshuffling the current assistants and bringing some fresh faces in as well.

You can't begrudge him the nerves.
all clubs talk about continuous development. to think otherwise is incredibly naive. all clubs have capable people coaching, given the numbers involved. its about maximising your talent. do we have the talent on the squad right now to win a flag? We were ranked 17th coming into this past season in terms of talent. Bring in all the assistants you want but the name of the game is talent and cohesion/continuity. If we have little injuries next year we will have a great chance of making the finals. we would have this year if we had a similar injury count as the Brisbane Lions for example

Considering all you seem to do is s**t on Freo in one way or another, are you surprised we don't like your opinion?
I forgot reality isn't allowed. He's going to be the greatest coach ever. Three flags in the next three years guaranteed

Don't like the move. Smacks of trying to appease the media and fans rather than just picking the best. Is Adam Simpson an ex WCE player and WA boy? No. He was the best available, once again we've Fremantle'd it
We appointed a guy who spent alot of his coaching development working under Simpson.

If we wanted to appease the media, we would have picked Sumich.

Good to see the realists have finally posted

Wouldn't say a lot. Less than half his time as an assistant coach. Also didn't you see what came out early? Wa media was wanting us to appoint a WA/ex Freo person

Haven't posted on here in maybe 8 years, have quietly jumped back in occasionally to feel connected to the purple army as a Melbourne resident.

I think much like when Ross came on, it brought about change for the better at the club. There is no denying Ross Lyon was a classic old school footy coach that got the club to take the training wheels off.... But I think we should be excited that a guy with Fremantle blood, who is more than qualified for this gig, who was in demand from multiple teams, is now stewarding the club into a new era.

Can't wait for 2020 and I know he will be a great leader.

Every paying member has the right to be reconsidering their membership right now. This club is going through the ringer. I am cautiously optimistic but this is a massively key moment. Its the defining moment to see if our greatest ever player will get a flag or not. Freogirl is 100% right to be worried as all the others have a right for optimism. We f’ed it for Pav let's hope we haven't for fyfe.

we did not f up for Pav and Fyfe. they both played in a gf and were not good enough on the day. They f up themselves. They had multiple finals campaigns under Lyon . some players never have the opportunity to play in a gf

Nope our game plan was totally worked out by Clarkson. Lyons style of play ****ed Pav sorry. We had the cattle to win but never figured the hawks out.

Admittedly we pr9bably would have thrashed any of the last 3 premiers but our game plan was the antithesis of the hawks game and Lyon never figured out how to beat it.

You're allowed to disagree, and people are allowed to disagree with you ;) No need to defend Brades, he's a big boy
Just good to see someone else copping it for not jizzing over Freo’s choice - it’s already cost ‘friendships’

BUT they had nothing much on the table.

Hated it when we lost Harvey, but we got someone who had gotten his team to a GF - sadly he brought McPhee with him.

Probably the best option of the extremely limited group we seemed to be looking at.

Agree with brades that it is a bit cooked. Alcock and Bell don't exactly fill me with confidence with the way they seem to be making their decisions on the fly. If we slip back into a half arsed boys club we are ****ed.

However, I think he was the best option of the field and if we can get a few good assistants around him out could be very positive. Here's hoping for Pyke or similar.

15 points was the margin.

If Ballantyne and Fyfe kicked the goals they missed then different story. (Ballantynes the worst - could've passed to walters open in the square - didnt choose team football)

That is on the players. The coach can't kick the goals for the player.
