Go offer big money and get 2-3 of:

  • Leppitsch
  • Lappin
  • Van Berlo
  • Reid
  • McVeigh
  • Bruce
  • Pyke
  • Richardson

Demote Corey.

Fire all ex-Freo Players involved with the mens' team outside of JLo (Bell / Mzungu / Hayden ?)

Then get Sandilands back at the club.

Would love someone like Dunstall to come and have a look through the club too.
Agree with Dunstal but Think you are a bit tough on Tendai he is not a line coach and works hard with the developing players and always see him down at Peel putting in time and effort
If we can get back his best mate DeBoer to be an A/Coach we might get back some team spirit and hardness

Have to disagree on MDB. Getting him at the club or the idea that was floating around of Mayne is exactly the kind of shit we have to stop doing.

But that's not the style he played last season. He's just probably passive this season and trying to get the club into the top 4 and keeping it all together. Jl is capable of firing a rocket and changing the team mid game. This season he's definitely scared or shocked to make a move. Now at 0-2 he ll have nothing to lose.
We have a lot to lose. If the dockers get bottom, demons get pick 1

I came to the conclusion today that the major mistake JL has made is to refuse to move on from the game style that was working for us for a lot of last year in terms of adjusting to new personnel.

We lost Mundy, Lobb, Acres, all of who played critical roles in some key moments last year.
Mundy by throwing his weight around in centre clearances and taking it on himself to exit stoppages and kick the ball straight inside 50 to leading forwards.gi
Lobb got us back into several key matches with his contested marking and booming goals. During the final against the Dogs and there was one other game where he took several strong marks and converted from long range several times in one quarter.
Acres was crucial during some of our better wins, against Carlton at Optus and against Geelong he took defensive marks and was key in transition.

JL has basically brought in O'Meara for Mundy, Jackson for Lobb and Hughes for Acres and tried to play exactly the same game when its obvious that these 3 players are not capable of providing the same output. O'Meara is slow, can't bully stoppages with size and isn't a patch on Mundy for kicking. Jackson can't take contested marks or kick long goals and Hughes (I can't believe I'm saying this) doesn't have Acres ability to play transition footy like Acres.

He is being extremely conservative with selection and doesn't seem to get that its the aggressive, no fear footy provided by the likes of Walker and N'OD that affects the synergy of the group and gets us attacking. Players like Banfield and Hughes are mediocre and provide no spark.

He also doesn't seem to comprehend that our possession game doesn't work against rthe newer, fast ball movement style more and more teams are playing.

He does't get that having a few young inexperienced players can provide a spark in a group that has become moribund.

He seems to be over coaching and we never see Clark, Young, Wilson or in fact anyone running straight at the goals and having a ping from outside 50. Literally no one wants to have a shot and we see dinky kicks to players wide on the flanks or pockets.

He is in fact coaching like all the worst aspects of what Lyon was doing when we sacked him.

Coaches live in a bubble and are prone to developing a siege/bunker mentality leading to them doubling down with what they believe "should"work rather than accept the plain evidence that it isn't and making changes.

What needs to happen is beginning to blood youngsters and tweaking the game plan to we play to their strengths.

Walker and N'OD need to be reinstated and all of Johnson, Erasmus, Sturt must be given opportunity in the coming weeks. We need to be unafraid to drop the likes of Hughes, Banfield, O'Meara, Taberner and even one of Darcy or Jackson. Neither of the are taking any marks and Darcy is as good as useless around the ground as his tap work is terrible at the moment.

Most of all we somehow need to get risk and flair back on the menu. Clark should be given license to kick at goal from outside 50, Young & Chapman needs to go back to high risk attack the corridor kicks (Young recently admitted he's trying to take the risky kicking out his game for Gods sake). Freddy needs to be having pings from on the run outside 50 and everyone should be attacking the goals at every opportunity.

We need to let go of this mentality of possessing the ball at all costs and get with the current game.

Lets face it, more of the same will result in more of the same. As it is if we select basically the same team and play the same style we'll get rolled baby the Eagles this week and the season will be starting to look like a write off.

TLDR. JL has to show he's got it in him to change and take risks across all areas of the board.

If we did this and lost a load of games, well at least it would be fun to watch at times.
Now, we are still losing and it’s like watching paint dry it’s so boring.

There was about 4:50 left in Q4 when JL finally moved some magnets around properly tonight and we kicked 3 goals in that time.
He didn’t bring Walters on until near the end of the third quarter.

If he has done either of these even 20 min sooner, we win easily.
It’s absolutely maddening
Though it was working, it was also ironic, doing the long bombing into 50. The shizz we've been dissing them for. Time & place, I guess.

its about how fast you get it there. If you take an age you give the defender time to setup in their preferred zones and positions.
If you get it in there ASAP you have more chance of catching them out of position and creating chaos.
Collingwood just move it at all costs. Sydney monstered the Hawks today just getting the ball inside 50 as fast as possible.
We're trying to be too cute and create ideal entries, the actual kick inside 50 comes after several minutes of chipping it side to side by which time all the marking players are double teamed and they have their zone in place for exits and the drop points covered.

His CV currently reads - 12 seasons as coach, 11 finals appearances, 3 grand finals, 2 flags.

He arguably underachieved a bit not getting one more premiership between '11 and '22 but they were still consistently a quality side during that era. Fremantle would kill for that level of underachievement.

Port keeping Hinkley so long for comparatively little return is a warning against prolonged loyalty and hoping that things will eventually click. Longmuir deserves more time to turn things around after last season of course, but the club would be remiss to not be considering their options if we plummet this season and we continue to struggle offensively.
We would also kill for just about every good player in the comp wanting to go to them for unders. He has had a lot of time with a very mature list and only just made it work despite all of their advantages.

We have been flooded and Sydney'd in the last two weeks. First week we had nowhere to kick to in the fifty and yesterday we couldn't get the ball off them to be able to transition anywhere.

Jl is still a young learning coach. The team is bloody young too.
Fyfe not playing hurts the last two seasons.
The experienced is JOM at 29, Wilson too. There’s no one over 30 except for Walters.
Bring Treacy, Walker, Sturt and MJ/Erasmus in the next few weeks, the team is suddenly younger. YOU know what? That worked the last few seasons. Let’s do it again. Blood the youth and play natural instinct.

JOM, Hughes, Banfield, Tabs out- it’s a huge portion of experience.

What’s with the obsession of dropping JOM. Was fairly sound on the weekend. Feel like if he plays 70% fwd and the rest impacting in the midfield would be good for the team.

Treacy is a player who needs to find form in the WAFL. Agree with the rest.

Hughes, Banfield and Taberner need to go, we have better and younger guys in the wings ready to go, if Longmuir has any sense he'll drop them.

I'd drop all three

Replace with Waltes Sturt ahd Walker

Johnson the sub

Exactly there is a time and a place.
The time for long bombs is immediately after a centre bounce when there is 6 one on ones inside 50. Just get the ****ing thing in there at all costs as quick as possible. No dicking about. High, long and in the general direction of the opposition goal. It’s 50:50 then.

However defensive chains started by Cox or Ryan are different. Long bombs in this case after a minute of chipping slowly up the field are no good whatsoever. Almost impossible to mark it and just coughing up possession.

They are two completely different scenarios.

I'm optimistic JL can turn it around, but when JL was appointed to take over from Ross, one of the first questions in his first interviews was 'what sort of coach are you?' Immediately, he said I'm a defence first coach ... and my heart sank 😞

Defence is important, but after Ross, I was hoping for some more attacking flair and willingness to kick big scores.

Don't underestimate the effect it would have on the players as well. When you play such a turgid brand of football and lose, it turns into a death spiral as you lose the enthusiasm to play. Turns into collecting a pay cheque. It might be professional sport, but it's also a game. It is supposed to be fun.

There's also the problem that Erasmus, Johnson, etc will lose the passion as well being stuck at Peel while they see the spuds getting selected ahead of them. People will go on about them needing to toughen up upstairs, but it's not that simple and frustration is human nature.

Was catching up with a few of the coaches post match and pre-match conferences and some of the stuff that Lyon talked about from the Rd 1 game does stack up with what is being said about our ball movement.

A couple of quotes:
"Freo had a signature that invited that sort of game...the Doggies play pretty quick"

"they were uptempo, we were uptempo as well.. So I think the Dockers had 38 possession gains that were fast and turned 24 of them into slow and I think we (St Kilda) had 38 possession gains and turned 7 into slow"

Then he goes onto say that the Bulldogs had 41 possession gains (vs Melb) and turned 3 into slow so he was expecting it to be a different kind of game to the Dockers game.

King is on the money, we replaced a coach, with another coach who has the same DNA, just a different birth certificate.
I want a coach that will attack, like Collingwood, even the Toast are starting to evolve their game plan.
They'll spank us this w/end, and hopefully Longmuir realises his time will be shorter than his contract if he doesn't do something different.
Our mids have been hopeless last two weeks.
Change the midfield FFS
