I think all this chat will be quickly forgotten soon enough. I don't think we're even playing that bad, our guys are in the right places to contest, they're just either fumbling or not executing basic skills. That's why it's so frustrating to watch; we're beating ourselves through mistakes rather than genuinely being beating by better opposition.
the disappointment comes from having the most talented list we've ever had (across the board, not just in a handful of players) and we lost like a bunch of crabs who had no idea what they were doing to last year's wooden spooners who are also kids, at home. It's like a greek tragedy, except at least you can also have a lot of fun in the Greek isles (I know I did. The tragedy was in the hangovers).

Jeez it’s concerning to read this. The number 2 handball side??
Why the actual Fvuk do we want to be high ranked in that stat?? That’s the bloody problem!!!!
Would also like to know how many of those handballs are positive forward movement of the ball to a running player to gain forward momentum rather than the sideways or backwards handballs to get out of trouble.

Lack of forward talent precludes it from being "most talented" we've ever had IMO. There is definitely a real lack of talent up there until Amiss hits like 24 and even then it needs at least one more A-grade player up there

which year did we have more talent across the board? I'm struggling to see one.

Give it time when the gloss comes off a couple of the young players. We always see young players perform well then in our head they all continue on their early career trajectory to become stars.

Aside from the top end of those Ross teams just being monumentally better IMO, the role players were perfectly good as well.

I'd hope any list of ours with at least a bottom 4 forwardline in the league on talent isnt our most talented ever list

Arguably last year. What we brought in the last off season was less than what we gave away

2006 we had Pavlich, Farmer, Headland, Longmuir in the forward line. I think we were a couple of points from winning the flag (WC losing at home to Sydney in week 1 of the finals ... if they won we would have had a derby prelim and Syd/Ade neutral GF).

Around that 2010-15 era we had the likes of Sandilands, Barlow, Mundy, Fyfe, Hill, Neale in the midfield. McPharlin, Johnson in the backline. Pavlich, Ballantyne, Walters in the forward line. That's around 11 players who could play at an AA or near AA level (not all at the same time, but anyway).

Crowley was an elite stopper. Mayne was good for a period. Duffield an elite rebounder. Maybe it was more stars versus role players, but overall I would say the talent then was superior to now and we should have won at least one premiership and possibly 2 or 3.

Our list going forward would have maybe a reasonably confident 5 (Cox, Darcy, Brayshaw, Serong, Young) who could be in an AA conversation. But still a rung below Sandi-McPharlin-Fyfe-Mundy-Pavlich. Ryan has won AA and Pearce for brief times has been in the mix for top KPD's, but they would need to get their mojo back. To even be in the conversation with the earlier period, we need close to all of Chapman, Jackson, Amiss, Johnson, Erasmus to elevate themselves to the upper echelon of the competition.

Last year doesn't sell memberships
That is completely irrelevant to what we were discussing which comparing JL to one of the worst coaches of all time based on a 4 game span while ignoring all other results and evidence

It's a fan page, I'm just being an irrational fan

A tragically boring Greek tragedy.

He's fundamentally correct though. Even though we aren't playing great footy if we had any semblance of a functional forward line we'd be 3-1 not 1-3. Still not playing well but not with finals pretty much on the line in round 5 either

The issue is we can't kick into the forward 50 or lead to the best areas. Not one key forward that would be a defenders nightmare or a player on the wing who has the ability to get a possession closer than 150 metres from our forward line.

Steve Rosich was always banging on about 'sustained success'. We were successful under him, but it most definitely wasn't sustained.
Not quite correct. He had a mild stutter. Actually was saying "stained access". Big fan of bleaching apparently. I wrote a piece on it at the time with an early beta version of Chapgpt. Posted it to Dockerland.

The actual thing is yes there is a lot of young talent in this Freo squad...

But there is a fair bit of players in their prime years of 25-30 and over 30: Aish, JOM, Pearce, Hamling, Wilson, coyler, Ryan, Will Broadie, Taberner and Hughes etc.

We made finals in 2022. Why can't we make the next step?

It's great isn't it? In a winter sport with GF played in Melbourne...let's become reliant on handball, ****ing genius
