Yeah seems strange. He might just handle some administrative stuff and take the load off. The director of coaching may mean different things to different clubs

Mainly administrative I'm guessing, but he's taking over a role that we haven't filled since Fagan left for Brisbane. Think it involves close liason with Clarko, so Bolts prior relationship helps. IMO trust is important, particularly with someone who interfaces with several departments.

Has JL got the senior coach position? Who else has been interviewed?

He’s the favourite but no one has been interviewed yet. Have you guys got any more of those premiership assistants we can pinch?

No but can't see Freo getting Longmuir as head coach and then someone like Voss as an assistant. Cost would be one thing but that sort of reeks of "if you stuff up, Voss is in". Kinda like what St Kilda did hiring Ratten.

Woosha would be perfect to oversee the whole structure and also provide a mentoring role to Longmuir. I reckon his days as Head Coach are well and truly over.
I reckon Worsfold would be good as a director of coaching or mentoring role, particularly if Longmuir got the head coach gig. Longmuir worked with Worsfold at West Coast between 2011-2013. Worsfold also did a great job when stepped in to provide a coaching support role for Adelaide after the late Phil Walsh passed away. Also what he did with Essendon in the midst of their mass player suspensions and drug crisis can’t be dismissed.

For what it’s worth:
Director of Coaching: John Worsfold
Senior Coach: Justin Longmuir or Brett Kirk
CEO: Nick Marvin or Mark Brayshaw

Assistant Coach options to consider:
Todd Curley (South Freo), Dean Solomon (GCS), Jarrad McVeigh (retired - Sydney), Nathan Bassett (Port Adelaide), Josh Carr (North Adelaide)

I think Burns has aspirations, and was well regarded at Collingwood too. Think he joined us to get new ideas and polish. Newman, Yze for assistant roles. Not Mitchell!

Clarko is still trying to improve as a coach, so spends the off season observing other sports for new ideas. Think of Hawthorn assistant coaches as receiving cutting edge education as compared to some other clubs. Whether or not they are successful or not on their own is another thing, but the record is good so far.

Compare that to Lyon who apparently had a course at Harvard lined up for Leadership at the end of this season, maybe he would have been better off studying successful teams like the New England Patriots the last couple of years.

Patriots? That would be like someone from Balga (no offense) studying the architecture and recent renovation of Twiggy's Cottesloe house for tips.

I have a J'Lo story to share.

Way back when, there was a heap of stories circulating:
Longmuir to Carlton
Hasleby to Richmond
Pav to an SA team

These were all going around in the same year as they obviously came out of contract at the same time.

I was maybe 12 at the time and at home watching Friday night football when i picked up the phone dialed the operator and asked for J. Longmuir, in Fremantle low and behold i got connected to a number and picking up the line at the other end is Justin Longmuir.

I obviously discussed him staying at Fremantle as my primary reason for calling. However he was the nicest guy and legit sat on the phone with me for a good 10 mins discussing the game on TV, talking about the club etc.
For a young-ish footballer receiving a call on his personal line from a random kid, it was pretty damn good of him to not tell me to p**s off.

Legend, give him the job.

This is the most wholesome thing I've read on BF, thanks mate.

Think Dean Solomon has allegiance to Gold Coast

Think Rock and Hale are the only assistants to stay. Wouldn't mind chasing Rahilly from Geelong as a forwards coach and Bassett is one of my favourites

Who knows how Longmuir will go as a head coach or how he'll present in the selection process. I'm happy to let that play out.

But there are quite a number of options and Voss is certainly worth a look at and the reasoning doesn't even come close to stacking up to discount him flat out.

...

Voss is an interesting one. I've always been curious to see him get another go. His first go had perculiar circumstances that ultimately fell in a heap, but a lot of that was off field moves that cost him his job in the end. His raw coaching ability was not as bad as many think.

What I'm not so sure about is whether I want to see my team give him the go I would like to see ... really not sure.

That said, as an assistant, Voss is rated and he'd be a handy, especially with our younger group coming through.

The coaching position should be highly contested, our list on paper is good enough to play finals. Similar to
other teams, Bulldogs WC, before a change at the top.
That 5 year window should be opened next year, and unlike 2013 we have the age demographic to get better.

Hagdorn this morning said that Bell told JLO that he is no certainty for the job and has to follow the full process.
Also apparently Bell met with Leigh Tudor.
Great things are afoot.

So we haven't even appointed JLo yet and he is already leaking to the WA media?

Or is it Colin Young leaking, or maybe Belly?

Because there is no chance Hagdorn would say something that isn't true.

There does'nt have to be any leaking. All that is needed to transpire is that Justin mentions it to one of his mates at the pies and word gets around.
Some people really get triggered when name Hagdorn is mentioned.

Fremantle have flagged their intention to cast the net wide in pursuit of a new senior coach, approaching the Melbourne-based management company of some of the game’s leading assistants.
While highly rated Collingwood assistant Justin Longmuir and former West Coast great Peter Sumich have emerged as frontrunners for the Dockers’ vacancy, The West Australian understands the club has also contacted TLA Australia about its stable of potential applicants.
TLA Australia manages Richmond assistant Adam Kingsley, Collingwood midfield coach Robert Harvey, Gold Coast senior assistant Dean Solomon as well as former North Melbourne mentor Brad Scott.
Dockers football manager Peter Bell, who is part of the five-person selection panel, has been in Melbourne this week as the club continues to compile a short list for its senior vacancy.

The Dockers have also outlined the application process to Longmuir and Sumich.
It is believed Fremantle are keen to finalise sacked coach Ross Lyon’s successor before the end of the finals series

That was exactly my point Comrade Sputnik - if Hagdorn didn't get it from either JLo, Bell or Young then he is just repeating gossip, and people get sucked into thinking this is actual news. Jlo mentioned it to a friend who was such a shit friend he contacted the press? Or maybe the friend told someone else, who told someone else and eventually it got to Haggers - ever played the game "Chinese whispers"?

It's nothing reporting from Hackdorn really, just spouting the obvious as though it's something new or he has some sort of inside info (and what with his inability to be objective it plays to his burning desire to have a WC hero of his appointed to the job).

Of course Freo would say they will go through the process with no predetermined outcomes, of course Longmuir would say that it's not his for the taking, absolutely standard stuff with these things.

No leaking involved. Hagdorn has just repeated what has been said publicly. There is a process. No one has been predetermined. But he puts his spin on it to make it seem like he has the inside word.

There's no doubt our club is on the edge of a crisis.

Really? I could've sworn we turned a profit and won 9 games this season: Even beating 2 top 4 teams.

Is this the current feeling everyone has about our club or just standard WA fishbowl hysteria that for some reason everyone is buying into (or in some cases around here: Actively contributing to)?

When 38% of your postings are on the Eagles board you're bound to get a skewed perception of Fremantle.
