Jared Allen: A Cut Above

Anyone who has watched the Kansas City Chiefs in recent years will have no doubt noticed the significant impact, yet somewhat unfamiliar prescence, of young defensive end Jared Allen.

In his 4th season out of Idaho State University Allen has been the figurehead in re- building the Chiefs notriously weak defence since being drafted in the 4th round of the 2004 NFL Draft.

Standing at 6ft6 and weighing in at 265lbs, he is not the most gifted athlete, but what he does possess is a lion heart, a fierce determination to succeed, and a motor for days, all of which have allowed him to become (in my book anyway) one of the perrenial pass rushers of the National Football League.

Allen always seems to finds a way into the opposing backfield, plundering rush plays to the outisde with monotonous regularity and collapsing the pocket on his way to the quarterback on just about every down. His numbers only justify why he is considered by many to be the Chiefs most important player, a lofty mantle in the company of Larry Johnson.

Allen's Career Numbers:
189 tackles (163 solo)
35.5 sacks
19 pass deflections
1 interception
A plethora of forced fumbles (including 6 his rookie year)
9 multi- sack games (including against Vick, Brady and Brees)

Having battled away without much noteriety or surrounding talent, his performances are quite outstanding and given he was playing in a stronger defensive scheme, who knows the heights this guy could have reached already.

What can sometimes be an escaping factor is that defensive lineman, only put up good sack totals against weaker blockers and weaker QB's (Dwight Freeney). Not Allen, who has a proven ability to register success against any enemy.

Great player who deserves a mention, not my favourite player, but I wanted to get his name out there because this guy is very, very good.:)

Please someone say something constructive here!!

The coach has admitted that to rush the QB they need to use LBs and Safeties. Not too concerning in itself but it seems as though he's already given up on the idea of the front 4 being able to get near a QB.

The offence will be centred around LJ again. Gonzalez has been a great TE but will he be again? WRs would best be described as OK and let's not talk regarding the QB situation.

Oh my it will be a long season!

Dwayne Bowe. Dorsey could be huge!

Re: KC Chiefs

A week ONE upset could just about set their revival back on course but I doubt it. We tend to get unheralded teams like this KC outfit playing well in season openers then fall in a hole as expected. Dorsey looks the right fit but game management on the sidelines dedicates how games are won and TBH, I'm not a fan anymore of coach Herm 'You play to Win the game' Edwards after the debacle Colts wildcard loss. If the Chiefs passing game improves dramatically (allows the run game to become damaging), the wins will come but I can't see enough wins to make the play-offs. 6 max. is how I see KC's outcome turning out. KC doesn't score heavily which will count against them in tight games when they don't have the ball. D will be worn down by the better teams.

Re: KC Chiefs

I like what I have seen from Thigpen. He is from a small school and needs more NFL experience but I think he will eventually pass Croyle.

Feely Cut Within 2 Days of Signing With Chiefs.

Chiefs cut Feely one day after signing him

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Kicker Jay Feely has been cut by the Kansas City Chiefs, a day after signing a one-year deal.

Feely was an eight-year veteran who kicked for Miami last season. He was brought in to challenge Connor Barth and Nick Novak for the starting job.

The three had what coach Herm Edwards called a "kick off" on Monday and Tuesday to determine who would make the team.

Chiefs president Carl Peterson announced Feely's release on Wednesday. That leaves 76 players on the roster.

The poor guy is a trier no doubt but to be cut by the Chiefs within 2 days of being signed is pretty brutal.

The Chiefs. 2 Days. Del Boca Vista Phase 3.

Chiefs Get Pioli

http://blogs.nfl.com/category/adam-schefter/

Yes I know it's from Schefter but hey it's significant news for my team. Changes needed to be made to keep the fans on side. Not sure what it means for Herm, probably nothing as the players all seem to like him.

Re: Chiefs Get Pioli

Al Davis sitting on his hands still? :D

Another key indicator that the AFC West Cellar dweller will be the Raiders for a longer time than Raider fans will care to admit.

Re: Chiefs Get Pioli

It was a pleasant surprise because, as I understood it, Pioli was looking for a role where he had total control. From what I've read he'll be dealing with the football side only whilst someone else deals with the financials. Not sure if that's a plus or a minus. Still it's something to give the faithful some type of hope.

Now for a nasty pass rushe or two and young Mr Crabtree. I think LJ is stuck at KC because not many other teams will want to deal with his large contract. Thanks Mr Peterson!

DE or Crabtree (or maybe even a QB) at pick 3??? I'm not very impressed with the QB class this year and can see both the Lions and Rams taking OTs, so it could be a tough decision for the Chiefs - take the best defensive lineman, or take the best wide receiver......

Re: Chiefs Get Pioli

You'd have to wonder if this is the start of the end of an era for the Pats.
With an aging defense I would question if the Pats can bring in the talent now to keep on building.

Exactly the dilemma as I see it. I think the D has been neglected for a while so use pick 3 there.

Is it true that TJ "Whose your Mamma" becomes a free agent? If so a play by the Chiefs there wouldn't hurt the WR corps at all.

Not surprisingly, there's a bunch of WR free-agents, and the Housh is one of them. Here's a list of some of the more interesting (with their current teams and ages)

T.J. Houshmandzadeh CIN 31
Devery Henderson NO 26
Brandon Jones TEN 26
Lance Moore NO 25 (RFA)

Whilst Crabtree looks like he'll be a starter as a rookie I don't think KC should address WR with our 1st pick, especially when you list the free agent WR's that are available.

Hell we should give Pacman a tight one year deal to help shore up the secondary (& bring some spice/headlines back to the franchise ;))!!

With Pioli on board, you can be assured that the Chiefs will have a strong draft, the same has been happening at the Vikings since the "triangle of authority" (Spielman (personnel), Childress (coaching), Brzezinski (player payments)) has been in place.

and beware of what you ask for - not all news and PR is good for the team.

IMO Pacman will stay at Dallas in 2009

Re: Chiefs Get Pioli

McDaniels and Pioli will mean the AFC West will once again become one of the best divisions again. Chargers are on a slide now tho, and Oakland messed up still. But the division overall will become strong again.

strong?? meh... competitive at best. Until one them reaches a Conference Championship game at least. 2011 at best. How many Raider wins by then gg? 13?
