You'd want to shut this fellow down if you want to win a prem this season. How good was he in the Prelim and GF? I must admit I can't tell ya what he did against Port because the whole Lions outfit ate them up for Christmas Lunch in the Jungle and The Power got turned off faster than a stormy night. Cringe I know but's true.

Anyway. In all seriousness this lad is only 24 and very young by AFL standards. Already a prodigious talent. Better man mark him or he's going to have the Governor effect.

He'll intercept and counter punch the **** outta ya.

He's on the radar. And if he's not on yours, he better be.

As much as I'd like to see him take another step this year, I'm not sure. Solid player and plays his role well but I think the GF was as good as he'll play for awhile which he was arguably best on ground. Fairly average player for his position imo with alot of upside

Coleman could turn into a very good player, but his fitness level needs to improve.
He has a tendency to fade a bit in some games but overall, he is not too bad.
Second in the Norm Smith medal voting with 5 votes. Bobby Hill the standout with the maximum of 15 votes.

That GF game was one he did fade out in the 2nd half.
Coleman had 22 disposals in the 1st half, but he could only add 4 disposals in that 2nd half.

He has now played 64 AFL games so should have good improvement in him for a few more seasons.
Hopefully for Lions supporters he improves to be one of the better AFL halfbacks in 2024.

I mean he's good, but, there are better.
Yep terrific disposer by foot , but I’ll start to notice him when he is more accountable to his opponent, he is fantastic attacking , but as a defender , your first priority is to defend , many better half backs than him going around

In the modern game it is mostly team defense that make a good side.
However, you will always have a few in the back 6 that are lock down defenders.
Most teams have one small and one tall that take that role.
Depending on the opposition that may change slightly.

Lions use Starcevich as the small lockdown defender. Coleman, McKenna the attacking halfbacks with some defense mindset.
Wilmot off the bench the other halfback

Sure, you have to be aware of where your direct opponent is, but everything depends on how the ball is delivered to forwards.
Pressure up field is super important on team defense though.

Didn’t he play on bobby hill in the grand final. Defenders need to defend. No point getting heaps of the footy if your opponent wins the norm smith

Starcevich mostly on Hill. Lester on occasions. No doubt Coleman was in the area at times.
However, from a spectators and Lions supporters' point of view it looked like no one was on Hill :)

Well, he is not going anywhere for another 3 years.
News just in on Coleman.

Great kid. Les than 50 games? FMD. Maybe not the complete locker-downer yet, but he's very smart and has that well drilled look of a guy who polishes his skills so they flow under pressure. I daresay he has a good attitude and more improvement to come.

The first comparison that springs to mind is a young Bachar Houli, seems a bit introverted but the promise is there and he didn;t **** the bed when the P{ies were scorching them early, he put his head down and worked. Already nearly as skilled as Houli honestly, if he can become as steady and relentless he'll be a pain in the arse for a decade.

Just on Starcevich, he didn't play a bad grand final, the ball was being blitzed down the centre corridor and he did well not to cough up 8. The two times Hill went up his back were no win situations. If its coming in high on your head you have to stand and block the space, if you dart away to the side you're making way for your opponent (instantly dragged, cardinal sin) and it came in too quick for him to find Hill's body. Also the ball was right in the sun, apparently Hill's eyes have a protective film because everyone else was blinking.
