With the loss of Schache for a packet of crisps, Brisbane is in desperate need of a genuine KPF to pair with Hipwood.
Maybe if Carlton finish last they would be interested in a a trade for pick 1 for pick 2 + 20. I'd say Carlton wouldn't do it for that but who knows (maybe a pick closer to 15 would be needed). The current difference between pick 1 and 2 looks quite substantial. And of course the ladder will change but they way we are playing and the way Brisbane are playing I don't think Carlton will finish above the lions at all.

Brisbane won't do any such trade. We'll just take Sam Walsh and be very happy.

You don’t like rozzee, rankine or max king. They be playing regular SANFL a huge step above TAC cup and racking up similar to Walsh in far superior comps.

I'm a massive fan of Rankine. Another Lions poster is a massive Rozzee fan.

But the Lions board group think is all in on Walsh. We're more than a little gun shy on the whole go home factor.

Yeah makes sense. You’ve done quite well trading your last pick 2 although you’d obviously prefer to keep your top picks. Walsh is Victorian right? Doesn’t he equally have a gone home factor. Most Victorian’s go home but interstaters tend to stick the course as they assume statistically that they’ll have to leave as more teams are else where than SA or WA and so on. I’d take rozzee and two.

No they are not. Walsh will average 30 in TAC. His running patterns and game sense will see similar output in the 18s National Champs.

Disagree. Are you sure you understand what I’m saying. Rozzee and rankine are playing against seniors and performing very well. They will walk into an AFL midfield straight away much like a Powell-pepper in year 1. Walsh is playing against 17-18 year olds. The others already performing against mature bodies.

Edit: they also have zoning restrictions. SANFL doesn’t.

Did Walsh not just top the disposals in the academy game vs Norths VFL team

Very true, I obviously didn’t account for that. In the end it’s not my decision who brisbane should take at 2 if that’s where they end up. I just think rozee and rankine have more runs on the board and will be higher. Knightmare I think has them in front too. For a team like Brisbane and also Carlton the ready-mids or mature age is where they need to start looking considering the length of their youth lists at the moment.

KMs Power Rankings Top 10 as at 2/4/2018 were:

1. Lukosius (WWTorrens)
2. Rankine (West Adelaide)
3. M. King (Sandringham)
4. B. King (Sandringham)
5. B. Smith (Sandringham)
6. Collier-Dawkins (Oakleigh)
7. Hill (Perth)
8. B. Williams (Dandenong)
9. Rozee (North Adelaide)
10. Walsh (Geelong)

Hey KM,

Could you provide an update on the players linked to Collingwood in the draft (W. Kelly, Quaynor, Holt-Fitz, any others there might be). Also, if we land a pick around pick 8 and assuming we don't land Tom Lynch in free agency, is there a top 10 key forward in the system you think would be available to trade for with that pick as there doesn't seem to be any KPF or KPD in your power rankings after the King twins beside Blakely who's linked to 3 teams or would you just go with best available?

Cheers.

Walsh way too low and Blakey and Hately are in for mine but it is so subjective this time of the year which makes it fun. I think Walsh tracks better than paddy Dow at the same time of the year.

Thanks KM hugely comprehensive. Will be very interesting for sides like Carlton, saints and lions as to who to take in particular with the mids in this draft too and all three sides needing mids more than a KPF or D but in Carlton’s situation at 1 at the moment you can’t go past lukosius. Hopefully they can fill their midfield gaps with a FA like gaff or Sloane while bringing in the two hickmotts and BSOS. They already have the makings of a strong midfield but they’re just way too Young and haven’t played enough together yet to know where they all are and whose going in and whose not.

I’ve mentioned this on the carlton board but this is Thebes two options I’d love to have next year

1) lukosius (pick 1) + gaff (FA) OR
2) Rozzee (pick 1-3) + Lynch (FA)

But still if Carlton come last and lynch wants to come and SOS puts in an offer. We will have to take lukosius or trade down but who would turn down a generational forward. You’d look back on it and think ****.

Too many talls are at carlton already but give it 1-2 more years and with the live trading option we could come out pretty well if we wanted to move a Macreadie or McKay on to improve our position to get some lukosius and another top 10 pick for a player like samwalsh.

Any situation you can get Lukosius in this draft. You do it.

Rozee I don't see going top 3, and I also see the value in this draft as being in the key position players.

Macreadie or McKay might get you up a pick or two in the second round, but as still developing players, they're not going to get you much.

Walsh and Bailey Smith are the two best accumulators in this draft. They'll find more of it than Rozee or Rankine through the champs.

That's not to say they're better players. Both SA boys may be better.

But Walsh and Smith are more your more elite ball winning/accumulating mids.

Interesting on the overager Baker... will he play in the champs?

Haven't seen the final list. Being an overager who hasn't done all that much he's against the odds to make it.

With that said, he was a state combine invite last year, so there is still some interest in clubland. And on a wet day being one of the few to show some glimpses, Baker is one to track the development of.

Sounds like a Rookie.

SWells loves the unloved.. the slightly dinted , the overlooked ..guys who have lost favour for some reason... is there anyone who was highly rated last year who will miss most of this year with injury?

Rookie chance is what you're looking at with Baker.

Noah Answerth is your guy who missed most of last year with injury and looks highly draftable this year. Had he not been injured, he was probably a first half of draft prospect last year.

As much as I would love to draft Walsh or Hill I don't think the midfield is the Lions most pressing need our midfielders have actually been competitive this year hopefully the Lions target a forward this draft

With Lukosius and Max King up the top end, if Brisbane finish bottom two, you've got your key forward.

Thanks for that... looks to be an aggressive running hbf type , his kicking looks a bit underwhelming ... sort of Saad type? . Back injuries make me a bit nervous however.

until they decide to go home after 2yrs.

not saying they will, but we know Walsh is a big Lions fan.

If Brisb get a top 2 pick, and if they are concerned about go home factor, then id consider trading down to 3 and seeing if you can get a bounty from a team who is desperate for one of the key forwards. Just like Boston did this past draft.
