Not that it will ever be admitted but Tanking?
Like not tagging JJ when you play the Bulldogs?
No need to reply just my take on the situation.
It feels like Dew is making a point more than anything. Dropping Lyons. Dropping Hall. Probably their two best players.
He's all about bringing the pressure around the ball and making that the clubs identity.
We saw it through the preseason, but probably hasn't carried over through to the season proper as successfully as hoped.
Seems a very deliberate development focus.
People are looking at Barlow's numbers in the NEAFL and saying wtf, why isnt he playing. The reality is that he is genuinely cooked. A few weeks ago he had like 45 touches but literally a third of his possessions were a direct turnover. And this is in the NEAFL. Barlow will be able to get 40+ touches a week in the NEAFL till he's like 50y.o., he's a magnet and the NEAFL is not a strong competition. The last time we saw Barlow in the AFL it was extremely clear that he is genuinely cooked. The Suns are doing the right thing not playing him.
Not playing Lyons is an utter disgrace. The only explanation is that Dew is not a fan of him and I do wonder if Lyons might get moved on at the end of the year.
If you get 30+ touches, does disposal matter all that much? He can play inside and win it and distribute by hand. For mine that's better than really every outside of Lyons and Hall who can't get 20+ disposals each week.
Knightmare, Please take note of Harry Mackay's game today against quality opposition.....Show's incredible potential...note his contested marking
I was busy watching Western v GWV today.
Looking at McKay's stats though, looks like one of the few who showed up today. A definite step in the right direction. Equal career high's in disposals and marks and only one of in goals. Pretty good in a game where Carlton were thrashed by over 100 points. Probably his best game so far.
Playing v good opponents doesn't seem to trouble him. Also went well v WCE in round 1 with 6 marks and 4 goals.
As with other young players, he'll need to develop greater consistency. If he can be a 40+ goal, 100+ mark, 250+ disposal key forward per 20 games, I'll be very openly acknowledging McKay as a key forward to build around.
At the end of the day, it's still early stages for him, he's still a developing player.
Knightmare did you hear anything about why Nathan Kreuger didnt get picked up last year? Has had a really good year in the SANFL seniors and is bulking up to be quite a big guy. Has a very good ability to mark the ball at its highest point, strong hands and can play back, forward and mid.
He showed attributes last year but from what I recall his production was only so-so.
He was seen as a late/rookie pick, and when you're a KPP and not seen as a top 40 choice, often you'll fall through with clubs knowing only really top tier KPPs really are worthwhile.
All he can do is keep improving and if he looks like he can become an AFL quality KPP and hold down a position as a clear best 22 guy, he can earn a list position.
