At Freo with no talls he kicked 30-33ish goals a year. Kossie kicked 35-40ish in a similar setup, both put huge pressure on.I thought that’s what everyone went on about with him. It seemed to be a big part of his role.
It is, in the same way that it is for Kozzy, small forwards need to pressure nowadaysI thought that’s what everyone went on about with him. It seemed to be a big part of his role.
The majority of small forwards, their role is to provide pressure. Look at the Lions, McCarthy, Ah Chee and Lohmann, they're first priority is to pressure the opposition and play a defensive role. Goals will come on the back of that.I think you answered your own question. He kicks a lot more goals. Realistically he’s a small forward. To describe him a a defensive small forward doesn’t pay him justice. That’s a Lachie Schultz type. Pickett had comparable, I believe better stats than a few like Betts Cyril and Milne after 100 games. You are selling him well short. We aren’t talking 2 firsts for a McCarthy type.

That’s fair enough. He’s an all round, very good small forward.Kosi is a very good, defensive small forward. But that's all he is.
This is the comment i was initially responding to. My point was that was underselling him.
I do agree that Brayshaw has more influences over games but the 'that's all he is' line just shows where you've missed the mark. If you want a quality small fwd, you have to pick them in the 1st round. They're worth gold. Guys like Watson, Pickett, Weightman, Kako..all first rounders.Brayshaw has a lot more influence over a game than Kosi.
Kosi is a very good, defensive small forward. But that's all he is. Yes he can get thrown in the midfield for 5 minutes a game, for something different. But let's not pretend he could play a proper half of footy as a genuine midfielder.
Betts, Breust, Papley, Cameron, Milne all rookies.....I do agree that Brayshaw has more influences over games but the 'that's all he is' line just shows where you've missed the mark. Brayshaw also couldn't play small fwd...
times have changed. and you just proved it. Generally speaking if you want a gun small fwd, it's a first rounder and not a late first rounder either.Betts, Breust, Papley, Cameron, Milne all rookies.....
Pickett will have to get stroppy. Most clubs (see Port re Houston) will bend to the managers if forced. Can't see the dees letting him go while contracted. They have refused to trade Oliver, Petty and Petracca in the last couple of years when they wanted out, plus Pickett has already tested the waters and been told he won't be traded before.
Charlie Cameron would have kicked the most goals as a small forward in the comp in the last 5 years, so not sure how that proved your point? Quite the opposite.times have changed. and you just proved it. Generally speaking if you want a gun small fwd, it's a first rounder and not a late first rounder either.
I was amazed Houston went for so little. Port folded big time. Dees seem to stick firm and I think will reluctantly trade Kozzy for the right deal. Player managers have too much power these days and can see clubs pushing back a bit more.Pickett will have to get stroppy. Most clubs (see Port re Houston) will bend to the managers if forced.
Otherwise I totally agree, Dees will just keep him and rightly so.
Most of the early picks on small forwards have midfield aspirations though and have a lot of X factor. Kozzy has this but probably isn't as good in the midfield as say a Bolton. Others like Rachele haven't come on in that department at all.You will always get late or rookie picks for any position that can turn out great players.
But it’s been more common in recent years to pick small forwards early. Invaluable when you get one like Kozzy in the team.
I think you are not taking into account the power of player managers these days. You can only say no for so long until a relationship is fractured. The clubs don't want that. Can't see the dees letting him go while contracted. They have refused to trade Oliver, Petty and Petracca in the last couple of years when they wanted out, plus Pickett has already tested the waters and been told he won't be traded before.
i think you are not taking into account how stubborn MFC is.I think you are not taking into account the power of player managers these days. You can only say no for so long until a relationship is fractured. The clubs don't want that.
Agree with this. Dees don’t have a recent history of folding in deals. Also to player managers trying to get their man out. Also it depends on the manager I think Connors Sports can be one of the ones that have a good record of moving players. Kozzy isn’t with them as it stands.i think you are not taking into account how stubborn MFC is.
Who is Kozzy with? Sometimes they have to let a disgruntled player walk due to bigger names in the stable or new targets. Not quite Colin Young levels for other managers but there can be an external pressure not related to the leverage between the teams.Agree with this. Hear he's been looking at holiday houses in a suburb called Applecross
Fine, If you insistLet's just hope Freo pay overs for an under contract Kossi and we get Warner.
Happy days.

WC will go hard for both, and I wouldn't be surprised if they land them as they should have huge salary cap space as of 2026 onwardsLet's just hope Freo pay overs for an under contract Kossi and we get Warner.
Happy days.
