This and freo still have to sign Brayshaw on 1 million a year or so how can they fit Warner in unless they get rid of Darcy or Brayshaw signs for another club. Also they have no draft capital and what is likely to be picks in mid teens next 2 years and don't really require Warner in a positional sense as they already have a full midfield with a few younger guys trying to break into it already in Erasmus, O'driscoll and Johnson, so they are already well stocked in that area. A guy like Pickett or Bobby Hill etc would be more of a positional requirement and cheaper to trade for and require less salary salary cap, so makes more sense to them.

Makes sense Freo wouldn't go for Warner - would make their midfield ridiculous, but probably better investing elsewhere.
No idea what Koz will do end of year and I'll be heartbroken if he goes, but at least he signed that 4 year deal in 2023 so we will get a decent return.

I really want Kozzie. You will get a decent return for him if he genuinely wants to leave. Maybe similar to what Freo paid for Bolton.
Without loosing Brayshaw etc Warner will be that bit to higher price for Freo.
I'd prefer Warner only to take some pressure off our other mids.
We should have space, both salary and draft capital, if we get rid of Sean Darcy. I reckon it will be tempting. Erasmus could also go if he doesn't crack the best 22 this year. (Admittedly not for much draft capital).

Why would we get rid of Darcey
I think the investment of Jackson and Darcy is crazy to carry. Jackson on around 1 million a season. Darcy would be around 800k. IMO Jackson will be the better ruckman and you can get a nice deal for Darcy. Then put an offer forward for Warner.
IMO as I’ve said Warner is a better option than Kozzy. Warner is a point of difference in the middle for Freo. The elite mid who consistently hits the scoreboard. Maybe could get Warner and Kozzy if the lose Darcy.

They probably have to drop Darcy just to fit in Warner, Kozzy is another 900k on top.
They might be able to fit in Kozzy without losing Darcy, but surely not for Warner. Warner will be on close to 1.5mil a season, potentially with a bonus in his 1st season offered by other clubs. Warner isnt going to accept 500k a year less just to fit into Freos salary cap.

Yep. It will be hard to fit both in. Would take some moving of money around. Although Fyfe and Walter are OOC after this season. The problem with getting Kozzy on the cheap is that he is contracted for 3 more seasons. So you’d think they’ll be paying a premium price if they want him in 25 or 26 off seasons.
WC will have the trade capital but it’s a players market and players get to where they want. Perhaps he wants to get to WC anyway.

Yes its a players market, but players want money too.
He might pick Freo because he was drafted with a bunch of their players and closer to success if all else is equal, but I doubt thats the case.

Jackson would be around 900k then if not 1 million. Still a fair whack of salary on 2 rucks.
Yeah, I dunno about that. Bradshaw, young and Serong will be on good money and then we will probably have to give significant pay increases to Treacy and Amiss. (This is not counting Bolton, Darcy and Jackson who are probably on 800k already).
pickett and Warner will both command good money (in warners case it will be north of 1 million a year). You can’t keep them all and I think something will have to give.
Did you though? Or did you have room for 1 maybe 2 of them, knowing that Pickett was unlikely and Baker wasnt actually going to happen pretty early on meaning publicly you could keep up the illusion you were still chasing hard without actually needing the salary cap space?

Young, Treacy, Jackson, Amiss, & Cox are on long deals, where they've likely sacrificed coin for security. Serong and Brayshaw will sacrifice some to be the first in Purple to lift the cup. I think we can add Kozzy without too much issue, Warner is a whole other problem, but we're likely losing Fyfe, Walters & Aish next year, which is a min of $1.2 (I think Fyfe is on $400k, not sure about Walters & Aish), which does provide wiggle room. If Warner and Kozzy come in, I can't see Switta staying, and we'd be losing someone else, likely a big name (given Draper's development, Cox to Adelaide wouldn't be a crazy trade), so there's room for both, but Warner would need a haircut on what the Eagles will offer. Up to him at that point.
To have a shot at Kozzie and Warner I reckon we would have to:
- retire Fyfe, Sonny and Aish. (Probably going to happen anyway)
- trade out Cox.
- trade out Switta.
- trade out Darcy.
If we were a ruthless club we would make the moves needed.

Cant see freo being able to afford both Warner and Pickett, hopefully it means Warner would come to us if he leaves.

Exact same scenario can play out next year, Dees simply don't have to trade him, he can ask all he wants
