I put toast because this week should be full of positives...

Leon has given us over 200 servicible games as a Collingwood player

I am perplexed as to where he stands now...

He has an interesting image from coach to supporters...even yesterday " he was very poor, went missing oh, but that spectacular goal looked like he'd won us the game " There is a lot of "what he might do" instead of being picked for form.

He is very lucky because nobody has stood up to take his position away this year - Medhurst, Lockyer, Goldsack etc

What perplexes me is he was outstanding last year rotating through the midfield. This year that has not happened even to run him into form against weaker sides.

Has he been carrying a nagging injury? Has he lost pace? What's happened?

Obviously, the club has been painfully, particularly Bucks, louding his forward pressure and tackling stats BUT it seems more of a justification for picking him.

It is obvious to everyone now that his last chance in a final has now passed. We have gone to great lengths to recruit big game players. We have some outstanding young players coming through who could play a similar role.

So where does this leave Leon Davis? He is taking a spot that Dick and co. can play next year.

He really blew an enormous opportunity yesterday. Should he retire? Thoughts?

Please don't make this a slagging off at Davis thread...thats too easy and not constructive. I would like to know where he is at and why in other peoples minds.

Our game style now probably doesnt suit him as much. A lot more players in, and around the forward contests. Other players are doing the crumming work which is where he was dominating.

Needs to work on his positioning in the forward, and what he should be doing when he doesn't have the ball...

He plays a lot better with a bit of space, and allows him to do his magic.
Big games tend to be tighter, and so he doesn't get his space which is why I think he doesn't play well in those games.

Definitely shouldn't retire though. I dont want him to play next week, but might be able to get something half decent on the trade table for him next year. Still has 2-4 years of footy left.

West Coast for a 3rd rounder

WCE have the best small forward in the comp and are re-building.

It's unlikely they'd takes Davis unless you offered to pay his salary, it came under your cap and you offered them a draft pick or 2. Even then, they may not bite.

I can't see he has any trade value at all for anyone else either.

He should retire, immediately. sooner if possible. Does not have the temperament for big games. GFs are physical games and you need to be prepared to go, he does not. compare him to Maxwell, Shaw, Thomas etc prepared to hurt themselves either in contests or by running themselves ragged.

It's a tough position, but the lack of effort yesterday was damning.

Sorry if this is harsh, but you need 22 on GF day and by playing him you're 1 short.

*nothing to do with op*

for ****s sake, im getting sick of people just giving it to leon, some of you should be ashamed he is a collingwood champion and all you dogs have done for practically the last 10 years is slag him.

What do you honestly expect he was going to do? he has done what he did yesterday all year; chase hard, get around 10 disposals and kick a goal.
It isn't his fault he is stuck in the lonely forward pocket all the time, blair is much the same yet no one is out to bag him, its just because it was leon davis.

Its pathetic what some of you are saying about him, yes fair enough he may get dropped and i respect anyones opinions who think that but some of the shit people are posting on here is just down right disrespectful to leon davis, none of you know what he has had to deal with(family issues) and injuries.

Funny how you all are calling for his head when he was the only one in the 2nd half that could kick a ****ing real goal. He is why were playing next saturday, ironic yes but true.

Worsfold has said repeatedly in recent months they are in the market for a crumbing forward, keep up kid.

But I didn't hear him say we were chasing a crab who goes missing when the heat goes on!

He has been measured and tested numerous times in September and has been found seriously wanting.

You guys have so many awesome footballers - Neon isn't one of them

Told you all Leon would do nothing. And don't give me that shit about the goal he kicked.

Had he contributed at ALL for the other 3 quarters we wouldn't have been in that position.

I TRIED to tell you all, that we'll lose if Leon plays. I wasn't exactly right, but I wasn't wrong either.

Leon has to go out for Goldy next week.

Davis 4 kicks 2 handballs for 6 disposals lowest of any player bar Gardiner(2k 2h) who went off injured before half time.

Ill be one who goes into bat for Leon.

Medhurst, Lockyer, Goldsack all would have struggled playing in his position yesterday as well. Name a time when the ball was delivered I50 to a leading forward?I can only remember Dawes on one occasion.

I'd say the majority of our forward entries were just long bombs that were marked by a St Kilda player or cleared too easily for lack of numbers.

Anyone else would have had the same input playing that lone crumber job. Leon to play next week.

I don't care that he only had 6 touches, what pissed me off was that he was unsighted for 3 quarters, how can he be no where near the St Kilda defenders for 3 quarters?

He was brought in for pressure, he failed.

When you're a small crumbing forward who is their to pressure the opposition, it's pretty hard when the ball is gobbled up by three defenders. What was he to do?

His job isnt to contest the long ball coming in, but to harass once it hits ground level. It didnt hit the ground all that often and he was left to play with himself most of the day.

Anyone else would have struggled to do anything playing his role.

agreed, watch the replay.. he didn't get many opportunities, and not a lot of gametime.
He could have kicked another but did the team thing and handballed to Daisy in a better positiion and he made a meal of it. Made a beautiful pass to Macaffer in tthe goalsquare too which unfortunately got stolen..
He'll get a good pre-season in and be back.
I thought Dawes had a worse game.

he is weak as piss this bloke, who does he think he is putting his tongue out and finger up saying he his number 1-more like number 44 on the field. disgraceful in big games and he wont touch it against us next week

also disgrace he got in AA team last year in front of Lecras! lecras wouldnt let leon wipe his ass

So your basing his AA nomination from last year on this years Grand Final performance? Or any Grand Final he has played in the past?

LUL WAT?

The tip rat named Stephen Milne is still in his class as September disappointments. Wouldnt wanna go to early champ!

no fool im basing his AA selection (not nomination imbecile) on that he didnt deserve it lecras was better. milne has performed these finals series and has easily been the best small forward of the series, he starred against geelong and did more than enough against the dogs.

he also played reasonably well yesterday and took an important mark on harry 'crap yourself when riewoldt is coming' obrien who runs like he has something pretuding out of u know where

Thought he just looked like a player who'd missed some footy and gone from VFL level to AFL level, because a GF is that next level up.
Actually thought he looked more up and about in the second half but the flow of the game was pretty shite for a small forward. Undecided if he should play next week.
Think if he can't rotate on a wing then there's not much point, it's a dead spot in game like this

I didn't see too much crumbing. I didn't see any hard ball gets. The goal he scored was when Baker (his opponent was off the field). Steele was better value on the day. I am not convinced that he should be in this weeks replay. I have always enjoyed Leon, but one needs to make a hard call.

Thats my point, it was impossible for him to crumb. It was impossible for him to get a hard ball get. If they wanted this from him, they would have moved him up the ground.

Steele plays as a half forward and our half forwards are always pushing back to set up the swarm. Sidebottom sees a lot more of the pill as he is always linking the play.

Davis will be better for the run and i expect him to play next week. Ill defend him all day long if i have to. :)

I didn't expect him to contest the long ball coming in, or for him to beat 3 defenders by himself.

I been defending Leon for ages and all I wanted from yesterday was to see him near the St Kilda ball carrier, the fact that he was not sighted around the ball carrier (not exaggerating unfortunately) for 3 quarters just pisses me off too much.

Leon is not giving his all and it pisses me off when you have guys like Lockyer who would have given 100% sitting in the stands.
