Dear drunkill,

The AFLW home-and-away season has come to an end and there are plenty of positives to look back on.

We had eight players debut in the Navy Blue, two NAB AFL Women’s Rising Star nominations for Keeley Sherar and Mimi Hill, and Darcy Vescio became the first AFLW player to kick 50 career goals, just to name a few.

We were also able to travel again and had the opportunity to play in front of interstate supporters in the Gold Coast, Perth and Canberra, as well as home games at IKON Park in front of our loyal fans.

We had a challenging fixture where we played all top-six sides, but our game really came together in the second half, and we ended the season with some strong results. Our team is resilient, and we are fortunate to have a supportive and inclusive program that focuses on creating a good team environment.

As we begin to look forward to next season there is even more to be excited about.

Connectivity is key for our side and we have that within our group, so we’re keen to build on that even more. We also have the youngest side in the competition which means we can build for the future and make development a key focus heading into pre-season.

The Club has invested in a full redevelopment meaning we’ll have some of the best facilities in Australia by the end of the year. Some of those facilities include a new indoor training field, fully renovated gym and aquatic areas, and new game-day facilities.

We also have new light towers at IKON Park which were put to the test during our Round 9 match against Gold Coast. They will be ready to go for Round 1 and we’re looking forward to hosting night games again.

AFLW will be expanded next season to include four new teams and make it a full 18-team competition. Expansion means there will be some player movements for all existing teams in the off-season, however we feel like we are as well-placed as we can be to tackle the expected challenges in the coming months.

We are all waiting - just like you - to see if the proposed August start date comes to fruition, and if it does, we’ll be ready to go.

Thank you to all our members who have come to IKON Park over the past 10 weeks to support us. There is nothing better than seeing your support in the stands.

The final event on our calendar this season is our Best and Fairest awards night which is being held at Crown Aviary on Thursday 7 April. It’s a great night where we all come together to reflect on the season just gone and crown our most outstanding player. Tickets are available here and we’d love to see you there!

For now it’s time to unwind, but before we know it we’ll be back for pre-season.

See you in season seven Bluebaggers,
