just when it appears that we have some good news coming our way with the potential re-signing of drummond i saw this article from todays Melbourne Age.September 21, 2010.................■ Brisbane is understood to be entertaining trading midfielder Daniel Rich to West Coast for the Eagles' No. 1 pick in the national draft - the No. 4 pick overall........................surely we cant afford to lose another midfielder with such great potential
It's the silly season mate........I wouldn't believe much of what you read over the next two weeks.

I like keeping up with the brothers from out West and I thought I might have had the wrong forum open for a little while there...

God help us if that is the case...all I can say is what on earth has happened at our club for all these good players wanting out. For god's sake, the club needs to find the root of the problem and get rid of them. If it is Voss, Fevola, I don't care who, but get rid of them immediately, regardless and stem the haemorrhaging now.

I can't help to think that we need a leader of the highest quality to get us out of this quicksand that is sucking all and sundry into it. We need to go after a Paul Roos or I hate to say it, a Mick Malthouse and bring back whatever it is that we have obviously lost.

Indeed Buddy was pick 5, 1 spot after Tambling and Pavlich was a pick 4.

Anyway, it is not who teams have taken at pick 4 in the past but who you could take this year.

I would certainly be happy if we traded pick 4 for Rich, but would Brisbane fans?

I personally want Rich to be a 1 club player for the lions. However, if behind the scene Rich is at risk of going to GWS or the Eagles next year, I would be happy with pick 4 to get a player like Gaff. I trust that Kerr and Reid will help make the right call in trades this off season.

But, I seriously doubt Rich will leave with the knowledge that he will be the #1 midfielder and most likely player at teh lions in a few short years...He will get paid a bucketload in teh long term to stay a Lions and soak up the sun surfing on his days off

looks like we might hold onto clark due to freemantles lack of good draft pick, now its rumoured, sherman to the swannies and ash mcgrath being shopped around(no more please lions we want to stay competitive)

I hope Rich stays for another year and the Eagles pick up either Gaff or Heppell.

If we ever get a chance at getting Rich we want him out of contract. Next year the Eagles will still most likely end up with a top 10 pick:eek: and we can always package that with a Ebert who Voss loves.

Unless Brown and Fev have a big year next year it will be a tough season for the Lions.

it appears that we now have taken steps to rectify our off field situation, with new new people coming in soon to fill the vacancies. hopefully this will provide the club with some stability. the exit of current players should now provide some opportunity for the inclusion of the callum bartlett ( big wraps ), obrien .beams and maybe nial mckeever. Another pre season for cornelius should give him more game time and hopefully we might see xavier clarke get over his injuries and provjde some much needed pace. gotta look for the positives now guys

chris judd anyone? Rich can come to the eagles and captain....

Yeah bit of a difference b/w Judd and Rich... Judd wanted to come home to football HQ, a wonderful city in Melbourne, not backwater Perth. Brisbane is a much, much superior city to Perth, there's no reason Rich would want to move backwards to "over west".

Also, you guys had your chance to get Rich, and you neglected. You rejected him. Why is he then going to say, "Oh, OK, I'll still come to you, now that you want me," like some beaten puppy dog? The Lions chose him, the Lions are fostering him, you guys will just have to keep rueing the one that got away.

In short, this picture should sum it up for you -

BTW, how's Bradd?

Guys- I actually think it is a good thiing for your club to trade him.
the game has almost passed him by at 20 years of age and he aint getting any quicker but the game is.

He will be finished by the time he is 23, as he simply won't be able to keep up with the game.

Get something good for him whilst you can.

If lack of elite speed is criteria for being washed up, then I would suggest that pretty much 70% of the Adelaide list also needs to be traded now whilst you can get something too.

Seriously, though, your 'expert' opinion on Rich's value would not be shared by other AFL clubs. His value has not declined and he would still be worth a top 5 pick. So I guess they could be all wrong and you are right - but it's not likely. It's more likely that you are just another troll.

Mmm, I know us adealiade folk can be a bit slow but I am struggling to find where I said his value had declined??

I said to get something for him while you can and that he will be washed up at 23 as he is simply too slow. he struggled to get to contests this year let alone in four years time, so trade him now whils the has some currency. Got it?

The pace of our list is irrelvent even if true. Typical to bring it back to us rather than face the fact this guy is treacle slow and will be caught out in the future years

Wow, doesn't seem like you've really watched him play or watched that mcuh footy in general. Have you seen what this boy can do? His slowness is relative and we've seen players of his pace or slower carve our great career. If you did have a clue you'd know endurance is his weakness and being able to shake a tag. And you'd also know that some young players take years to to get to their peak in this area. The whether he makes it as a 150 or 200 game player is a matter of opinion but you'd be hard pressed to find many who share your opinion that slower players have no place in the game.
