Well looks like Dawes wants out because of us Signing Lynch.

So it got me thinking if you would want 1 of Them, Which one and Why?

Not sure who I would choose, Lynch has done more and played some great games but is 29 so you would think he would have 4 seasons left at the Max. While Dawes is younger at 24 but not done heaps Numbers wise but great team Player

I voted for Lynch so I can just see the Results in Poll

Let me start by saying I want both.

If it was one only i would go for Dawes. Lynch has probably 2 years left in him and they will likely be fading away from his best years. I think Dawes is better than he showed this year so has more upside going forward and greater longevity

I would take Lynch if given the option just has been better for a lot longer.

and i dont think dawes has much scope for improvement if any.

Very Good Point and I think the Club thinks like you

First off the Dawes/Lynch rumour stinks of populous non-sensense. Lets set that straight now.

That said it's interesting debate. This is how I see it. We see Dawes as a straight up key forward first and foremost. Lynch was recruited to be the tweener being the mobile tall forward part time ruck with Dawes and Cloke anchored to their structures.

But it offers us some tantalising flexibility. If this combo fails to fire we have an alternative (or two) hooray! Which we lacked this/last last year.

If the above doesn't work we have the flexibility to drop Dawes and play Paine forward. Or drop Lynch and play Dawes ruck and Paine forward. It's that simple flexibility (and critically pressure for selection) that we lacked last season.

It is the sole reason, in combination with his free agency status, that we recruited Lynch.

What makes you say that Quicky?

Voting for Dawes would have also allowed you to see the poll results :)

I voted for Dawes. He's got a lot more upside because of his age. And although he's had a couple of dud seasons, I feel confident that he would be able to turn it around - unless there is some medical reason behind his performance.

But if getting in Lynch ends up meaning that we lose Dawes, then that is perfectly OK by me.

This is a terrible idea for a thread. Lynch and Dawes can both co-exist in the team, provided both maintain their form. Dawes has more future in the longer term. I am not voting as I believe it is counter productive to view the recruitment as threatening Dawes' role in the team. Lynch is 29 and was subbed off against us in the finals when Dawes got 20 possessions from memory.

I am basing this on Dawes to be Open for Trade.

Lynch. Dawes is a little bitch, showing his real character. Instead of seeing Lynch coming to the team and motivating him to improve to cement his spot. Hes letting a 30 year old push him out of the club, and hes accepting it. I don't want these people on our list, this might explain his year he had.

Although I believe we could play them both, especially is Sack doesn't sign, for the sake of the thread im saying Lynch

What makes you say that Quicky?

Because I think our first consideration was to take the pressure off Dawes (Either as a key forward or part time ruck) when we recruited Lynch.

If this fails, it provides us positional flexibility. We can drop Dawes or Lynch if it warrants. This is a luxury we lacked last season -> at least if you discounted the possibility of Ceglar which clearly the selection committee did.

The ideal option would have us retaining both. Paine's growth in the VFL would ensure that both are under pressure to retain their spots in the team and 2014 would have the likes of Ceglar also pushing for best 22 selection.

Gaining Lynch and losing Dawes essentially puts us in the same position as this year re: structure. What if Lynch duds it up as Ruck/Forward? Paine can't ruck. If we had both, we simply roll Dawes back as Leigh Brown 2.0 and bring in Paine. It gives us flexibility and puts the players on notice.

I'm honestly shocked that Dawes would shop himself around because of the Q Stick, you'd think that it gives the bloke his best chance to retain a best 22 spot because he can go back to his natural game. The only reason I can see it happening is because Buckley is looking to change the structure to be more mobile (Goldsack/Caff, maybe Paine) or if the Club is actually after someone like Giles or Tippett. Would be relatively pleased with Giles, but do not want Tippett.

Want Dawes to stay and I think he can turn it around to be a real contributor but realistically speaking if we get a first round pick for him, the Club ought to go for it.

I don't agree with this. It's pretty clear to me that the Pies have a list strategy of minimising experienced depth, in order to maximise the amount of youth and future potential that we have on our list. Cloke, Lynch, Goldsack and or Macaffer, gives us a much more balanced attack than Cloke, Lynch and Dawes. Paine and the young rucks are our depth for these roles. I don't think we would Lynch and Dawes on the lost unless they are both considered to be best 22 - I personally think that they are both pretty limited footballers who are capable of playing the same role for us - I'd personally take Lynch, although he is not as good on the ground as doors, he does the big man skills better.
