Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

Think it is interesting that Davis is here what a month and now Nicks is shipped off for a month.

The course is a nice tummy rub but that says to me that he is investigating what is wrong without Nicks there so he can fix it
You’d have to think Nicks would want to be here to steer the ship back to finals. I can imagine his who would be stoked that he’s going to Harvard, but surely his ego would want to be here controlling what’s going on?

Funny seeing Rowey and Bickley backing the move.

Don’t worry, Laird and Murphy, would be telling him what is going on.

When things started going bad for Neil we sent him on a USA professional development junket

Worked like a charm
It's a very "we spared no expense" style cope as the dinosaurs take over the theme park. Why Harvard specifically? I'd be happier if he went and hung out at a successful sports team.

It’s apparently spending time at clubs too.

I just can’t get my head around the timing of this.

We have just come off a shit season and the club and in particular Nicks need 2025 to be a success. Wouldn’t you then want your head coach here taking charge? Wouldn’t he want to be here?

Is he that full of himself and sure of his position he thinks he can skip a chunk of preseason?

As for the club, they already shown they’ve misjudged his abilities, are they doubling down?

Who is running the show until he comes back? Surely not Burns the bloke we demoted? Davis said he’s just observing up to Xmas.

Whole thing is weird.

McRae returns from abroad as Pies draftees stand out

Craig McRae is back from abroad as the Magpies' pre-season continues

COLLINGWOOD coach Craig McRae has returned from a study trip in America this week to oversee a pre-season program that contains 10 new faces, including those trialling for a spot on the Magpies' rookie list.

The 50-year-old spent a week completing a leadership course at Harvard University, living on campus in Boston, around a brief trip to Miami where he met with personnel from NBA franchises Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks.

Senior assistant and midfield coach Hayden Skipworth ran the program during McRae's absence and continued to lead most of Wednesday morning's session at Victoria Park.

A) It would be the Clubs decision to do the Harvard Course

B) Clubs are very keen to have Coaches take a mental break & freshen up after a season .....it's hard for some coaches to take that break

Quite a few Clubs now are taking similar action .....you could argue, why Craig Macrae was away during the AFL Draft

Having been to a number of ESS training sessions last summer ....Scott only put his first on-track appearance starting from mid January

What’s the issue

1. Opportunity for the coaching panel to take more responsibility

2. players hear fresh voices early in pre-season which is more fitness base focus - rather than game plan

3. Senior coach gets to collect intel on elite programs

Let’s not also be ignorant that the club can chose its exact timing - they also need to work with the 4-5 organisation that Nicks is visiting to pull together the timing - we are only a piss ant organisation compared to the organisations he is visiting

Personally, I don't have an issue with it if he's going over there on a bid to improve himself and his coaching. He needs to try all he can to do so, or he's cooked. Can't see how anyone can have as issue with it TBH. Pretty sure there's only 2 and a bit weeks of training left as it is

As for who's running the show... my guess is they'll all have a go. Pre season training plans aren't done on a whim, they're done well in advance. Burns, VB, Hombsch and Wright would all take charge at various points, it's good learning for the latter 2 in particular. Davis probably watches how they all go about it and gives feedback.

Such a disappointment the idiots resigned Nicks when they did. They couldn't even 'do nothing' properly, just let his contract run out ffs.

We will make finals despite Nicks terrible eye for talent, horrible selections and woeful gameplan.

The club could select 3 BF numpties to coach under Davis for the same result.

I fear we will burn this list with Nicks in charge for the next 5 years - Davis is our only hope.

I don't see it that way.

If he misses the 8 this year he's done.

JFC, he had all of each September to freshen up given we haven’t played finals in all 5 seasons he coached.

Why bring up Scott and McRae given Nicks has nothing in common with them? Both are premiership coaches, Nicks has yet to play finals.

Yep, if we have a shit year and he’s sacked does he have to pay it back like HECCS?

Duh !!!

You do realise Nicks as Head Coach had to be involved in securing the players in trades & Free Agency ......there's not a player that's going to agree to join a Club without multiple chats with the Coach

I suppose you think all those discussions occur over a couple of weeks

Referring to premiership coaches is simply grasping for straws ....none of what you posted makes any sense at all

A Coach doesn't get tired, or doesn't deserve to be tired ....because we haven't played Finals in the first 2 years of a rebuild ......just non-sensical
