Opinion Matthew Nicks: Adelaide's Coach (Part 3) - The Biggest Loser

Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

I was just suprised that after 5 years people didn't question bringing in someone like Davis
A lot of people questioned it

But mostly why did it take so long? And if the club feels he needs the help why not hire the guy to be your coach

Those were the most common themes here

That was what most people over Christmas were saying.

not enough support for Nicks from Day 1, we are expecting hom to do more than other clubs

(I can't back that assertion up with any evidence, but I can't provide evidence to the contrary, that is he has as much support as any other club)

I don't think Davisis head coach material, based on the limited material I've read on him.

I mean, my understanding is most good coaches do what the Davis + Nicks combo will be doing

so get one of the good coaches ? (But I could be wrong here, perhaps all the good coaches have a Davis?)

fair enough, I thought the general feel here was he should be punted.

Is there anything more damaging to Nicks than Davis’s comment “we go into a game with a plan and we stick to it”

What does that say about the way Nicks coaches?
The only more damaging comment would possibly be
"we'll go in with his game plan
& when it doesn't work by Round 5... (or at half time in Round 1) we dump it in the goddamn bin...and "I" throw a match to it".. Any questions??
-NO Matty, not from you.
You've, said more than enough.

OK ....until 2 months ago, no-one on this board had ever heard of Davis, or what he actually has done at BRIS (apart from press reports)

Did Davis develop the BRIS gameplan .....you'd have to be pretty stupid to believe he did, over Fagan

So based on no knowledge of the man, having not seen anything of him .....suddenly he's the saviour ? ......what lunacy

People still do not understand Davis's role .....that would require critical thinking ....but I can assure you, he's not developing the gameplan .....a gameplan that ultimately Nicks holds responsibility for

Alright lads, just hack it forward and if it goes through the goals that's an added bonus.

One of his roles is to coach the coach, Roo said it on his morning show.

If we do well, I am putting it down to the coach having a coach.

Did he really say that? Well well well.

We could have saved the money in sending him to Harvard, just set up a classroom at the club

With checks and balances in place you would have to assume Nicks inconsistencies and mistakes will tend to disappear. Or he will be exposed as a fraud and ousted.

If a senior coach needs significant coaching after 5 years, do you think he is ever going to be up to it?

Perhaps they give brain transplants at Harvard...
