Hey all, I am in town with the lady from Fri-Mon and am looking for some good suggestions for out of the way bars/lounges. I know the CBD is riddled with them and seeing as thats where we are staying thought it would be cool to sus out.

Not really after a club type atmosphere, just somewhere unique and cruisy to have a few drinks after dinner on Sat night and again on Sunday. Not fussed how big the joint is, just after something different to the usual spots.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

There's an irish pub in Little Collins St (between William and Queen I think). Then there's lane ways running from little Collins to Collins that have bars in them.

If you go to an afternoon footy game try the pub on Highett St West Richmond after the game. Go down Hoddle St, right at Freeman, left at Muir, right at Highett (outside West Richmond train Station). It's about 80m up Highett St inbetween houses. It's got a beer garden and from memory open fireplace.

Haha it may have been. Things got pretty crazy that night. They should have been pretty happy though as the tab racked up more than $10K

Sister Bella is a great little joint, especially if you like mulled wine ($5 a glass). It's just around the corner from Baroq House, on Snider's Lane, which is off Drewery Lane (off Lonsdale, just before Swanston. It can be hard to find as there isn't a sign but it has a big Coopers sign above the door.

Bunsen, the one you mentioned is called 'The Irish Times', and is probably my favourite pub in the CBD.

Cheers TD, will put it on the list.

Thanks again to all who responded.

I wandered into Trader Bar one night, and suddenly found out I was in the middle of a 21st. Got some free cake. It's a great bar.

Someone told me the Trader Bar was no longer...?

I like The Deck, it's above the Waterside - entrance in a little alley out the back. Nice in the outdoor area when it's warm.

There's a cool little place called Murmur, which is on Warburton Lane off Little Bourke. Fun bar staff and awesome cocktails. Oh and free fruit!

I like the Deck too....

I went to a bar called Trunk on Friday (Exhibition St) - quality....

Also, Lily Blacks and Loop - opposite each other in a laneway off the top of Little Collins....

Oh yeah, and the Carlton Club on Bourke St - it's hardly hidden but a great Friday after work bar.......particularly if you're into taxidermy.
