Our ball movement hasn't exactly been setting the world on fire either since he's come onboard, though I don't think he was in that specific role this season.

Was backline and team defence in 2023. I remember coz it amused me that he got Truck's old job.

Also me and Ethan discussed it all inside out trying to figure out what to put in the sticky post.

Why would he do it if it's a demotion? It's not like he couldn't pick up an assistant job elsewhere.
I'd say we are trying to prioritise development, knowing full well we have a large cohort of young unproven talent that need to step up if we are going to be anywhere near relevant in the in five years.

How you read it really depend on what Cara is wanting to do - and I don't think we know that just yet. It is possible he just wanted a change from line coaching to overseeing a whole team.

Either way I'm glad we have someone in there who has some credibility.
He won't get the same $$$ we're paying him elsewhere.

who organises the coaches contracts? would that have been an X Campbell special?

I believe a former premiership coach of Blake's was influential in his above average contract.

Cara reminds me a bit of Tony Shaw, but I remember him as a slick Player, good mark and kick was immaculate. I always assumed he was a quiet, unassuming, inner city type of person(not in a bad way). Never would have assumed he was the coaching type and I’ve seen him train, he’s incredibly motivating and vocal. Who would have thought he’d have one of the best resumes in the league. Good on him, but who knew that’s what would happen back when he was playing for us. It’s like he turned into the Incredible Hulk.

Anyone less than excited about Stanton as our midfield coach? Never struck me as a top echelon midfielder, never struck me as particularly bright (based purely on listening to him speak), I understand he is/was a hard introvert to the point he was nicknamed Humphrey when he came to the club (I think in that he never spoke rather than that he wore a vest and bow tie and no pants), and certainly never took our VFL team anywhere as coach (admittedly our VFL team has been a sh*tshow for a long time).

I don't get it. Surely better options out there. Anyone got some positive reviews for him to make me feel better?

He is the assistant assistant midfield coach. He is not a bad operator from what I have seen .
He actually moulded the VFL side pretty well once they sorted the VFL players. They ended up winning more than they lost in the back half of the season.

He has also been the runner.

He was… part time VFL head coach and then got a full time gig last year when they combined the development role with the game day role (runner) and appointed Tudor as VFL coach instead.

Now he’s the AFL midfield coach, which is definitely a promotion.

Was also a development coach at Carlton but their situation was a bit odd at the time, with covid and stuff.

What are David Rath's credentials?

Was he responsible for retain possession at all costs, even by tallying 300 more kicks than the oppo and not moving the ball forward?
If you are talking about us then I do not know who designed it but it was done to stop us bleeding from turnovers. Worked for just over half the year. I doubt it is the game plan going forward given we have looked at drafting pace in this draft .

Couple of our coaches running around in the country leagues.. Hurls apparently kicked 7 goals for Swanny against a team featuring Dane Swan 👀

Trio of Collingwood premiership players in action as former Bomber boots seven

Whilst most country leagues took a mid-season break for the King’s Birthday Long Weekend, there were still enough games for this week's edition of the Weekly Wrap.

Starting with some off-field news, more clubs have started looking at their futures beyond the current 2024 season. Bunyip FNC, currently in the West GIppsland FC, and Newborough FNC from the Mid Gippsland FNL have signaled intentions to move from their respective leagues and join the Ellinbank and District FNL for next year. As the rest of the season progresses, this will potentially become a common discussion point as clubs and leagues look to secure their long-term sustainability.

To matters on field this week, and there were more ongoing issues for troubled Bendigo FNL side Maryborough FNC. In a situation that happens in junior or reserve grades in lower level leagues, Maryborough not only had to forfeit their Reserve game due to a lack of players, they also required two players from opposition club Eaglehawk FNC to have enough players for the Senior match. Whilst the game went ahead, it was another big loss with Eaglehawk FNC managing 30.9 189 to Maryborough FNC’s 0.1 1. This now takes Maryborough to 53 consecutive losses.

This weekend did see some long-standing losing streaks come to an end with the biggest being St Arnaud FNC in the North Central FNL singing for the first time in 25 games after a 43-point win over Charlton FNC. In the Goulburn Valley FNL Benalla FNC broke their 11-game losing streak after a close 3-point win over the Shepparton Swans FNC. Saints coach and former Blue and Kangaroo, Jarrod Waite kicked 3 goals in the victory. Also breaking an 11-game run of losses was Maffra FNC in the Gippsland FNL, with a 21-point win over Warragul FNC. Staying in the Gippsland FNL, there was also a rare double draw on Sunday between long-standing traditional rivals, Traralgon FNC and Morwell FNC, who drew both the Senior football match and the A Grade netball as well.

Three former Collingwood premiership teammates laced up their boots in leagues across the state this weekend. Travis Cloke made his debut for Nullawil FNC in the North Central FL clash against Wedderburn FNC, kicking 2 goals in his side's 28-point win. In the Ovens and Murray FNL, Heath Shaw donned the blue and white vertical stripes of Corowa Rutherglen FNC as they battled Lavington FNC. Unfortunately Shaw’s efforts weren’t enough to help the Roos in their search for an elusive first win in 2024, as they succumbed to the Panthers by 26 points.

In the standalone Central Murray FNL match, Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan lined up for Tyntynder FNC while former Bomber Michael Hurley donned the opposing Swan Hill FNC jumper. Despite Hurley managing to kick 7 goals it wasn’t enough to help his team to victory with Swan’s Tyntynder FNC holding on for a close fought 6-point win, 15.13 103 to 15.7 97.

Whilst most of the league leading goal kickers had the weekend off, there was still some action in front of the big sticks. Braydon McHugh from Longwarry FNC was the only forward to hit double digits this weekend, with a bag of 10 in his side's 148-point win over Nyora FNC. The weekend also saw two new members of the 50 goal club for season 2024 with Berrigan FNC’s Jordan Bird managing 3 majors to edge up to 51 season goals, while Alvie FNC’s Dominic Dare kicked 4 to take his season's tally to 50. They still sit far behind current statewide leader, Bear Lagoon Serpentine FNC’s Josh Mellington who leads allcomers with 87.
