Blue vs white collar has lost a lot of it's meaning over the past few decades anyway. These days the class divide is home owner vs renter
Reminds me of this article from a few years ago;

6 classes defined by social and cultural capital, rather than by job… which means a white collar worker could be anything from “precariat” to “established affluent” depending on how much they earn, who they socialise with and the types of hobbies they have.

But still, he did a lot of things right. Players loved him. He made big calls around Hooker, Bellchambers, Zaka etc which I think were for the betterment of the club. He did a good job connecting current players with the history of the club and their respective numbers. It just wasn't his time, but I am sure it will come again in the future.

Didn’t Hooksy call it himself?

I like how Brad coaches from the box. I don’t know why but I can’t stand it when coaches are coaching from the boundary line. It gives me bad vibes.

I agree but it's such a shit thing to try and hang on a coach like many did with Rutten last year. Not many people lining up to tell Hinkley and McRae to go back to the box right now....

Just saying it was a personal thing I like about Brad. I wasn’t even thinking of Truck or anyone else for that matter when I’ve said it. I just think in general when coaches are by the boundary line they start acting like goofy supporters. Is there any harm in it? Probably not but it just doesn’t vibe with me.

I think it's each to their own and also depends on the type of coach someone is. I don't have an issue with it at all in theory, think it's probably better for some guys and is sometimes a beneficial circuit breaker - but when it was someone like Truck coaching on the bench it felt pretty clear that it was due to him feeling like his message wasn't getting across from up in the box, which obviously spoke to bigger issues. Like, everyone just looked visibly uncomfortable with him being there. Himself included.

At suburban footy games the coach usually stands on the sidelines literally coaching the entire game by way of yelling tips and encouragement to the players. This is the vibe I get from Hinkley, McCrae, Fagan, Voss too - although he's giving similar vibes to Truck - they are all apparently guys whose coaching skillsets are more in line with motivation and man management than as tactical coaches.

I think what’s really getting lost here in the truck vs scott conversation is the impact of Merrett as captain and the extra resources being poured into the football department.

Teams tend to take on the personality of their captains and in the past Merretts drive and determination has been seen as a negative. Now it’s the standard that everyone has to keep up with to fit in.

The last paragraph describes the VFLW too — last week the camera was positioned near our bench, you could hear the coaches yelling instructions to our players really clearly in the video stream.

Hey, I resemble that remark.
i’m just joking - i actually really appreciate the skills drummers have - Ive played Rock Band on XBox a lot and sometimes it takes me a couple of goes to ace the drum tracks

This week presents a very different challenge for Scott. We're playing a team that's been stung badly, is copping it from all angles, is gaining a few senior heads and playing at home. We're in an emotional let down spot having come off an unbelievably tough 6 or 7 weeks and a last gasp win in a marquee game against a side we just don't beat and playing on the other side of the country.

All things being equal we should win and win well. It'll be interesting to see how Scott gets them up and how it pans out.

They do it in the NFL too, though they also have people watching from above. Not sure it’s a big deal either way.

It’s not a big deal, just depends where the coaches’ strengths are and what team they have around them. If you have an analyst that you’re paying to read stats then you’re not gonna sit up there and do it yourself.

As a fan it’s nice to hear what the coaches are saying though

Shiny Bum was what my Grandad called white collar. Always found it apt.
Haha yeah, for some reason my grandad always said that white collar people had servants to pick their noses for them.
As somebody who moved up the socioeconomic chain to the middle from the very bottom, where's my snot servant?

Is Brad a super tactician or is he better at instilling good lessons above the shoulders? I never believed our footballers were more stupid than others from other clubs! Just that they had a more complicated set of rules to follow! The old motto that I always followed was keep it simple stupid.

So you’re saying Langers is stupid? What’s your point? Funny he is looking like one of the smartest ones on our team atm! He must of just suddenly grew a brain? What your spin on it? I would love to know. Are you saying Langers suddenly got smarter over night?

They dumbed it down for him. Lead out, take a mark, kick a goal, kick a goal. Lead out, take a mark kick another goal.
