Is Brad a super tactician or is he better at instilling good lessons above the shoulders? I never believed our footballers were more stupid than others from other clubs! Just that they had a more complicated set of rules to follow! The old motto that I always followed was keep it simple stupid.

So you’re saying Langers is stupid? What’s your point? Funny he is looking like one of the smartest ones on our team atm! He must of just suddenly grew a brain? What your spin on it? I would love to know. Are you saying Langers suddenly got smarter over night?

They dumbed it down for him. Lead out, take a mark, kick a goal, kick a goal. Lead out, take a mark kick another goal.

So you agree we have made it simpler then. Nice! it’s always hard to decipher a court jester type you know. What about the other question I posed to you, do you think our footballers are dumber than other clubs? Or did we just make it too complicated for them?

Says the same things as our other coaches does Brad, in the presser we got his version of "player led" which whoosha was howled at for.
Just goes about it slightly differently in execution to get the results.

It's why people are overly harsh on coaches, criticising intelligence? Really?

The messages are mostly the same, they all see the same things with the list and what needs to happen. Some can sell different messages better than others.
We need to move away from just saying " oh they were a bad coach", sometimes it's just they weren't the right coach for that group or even just the time.
This early success doesn't make Brad a good coach (I do think he is but I felt that when he was at north), but he is definitely the right coach for this club and group at the moment.

That probably extends to Captain's too, Merrett is what we need at the moment, and he is probably what Brad needs to help his message.

Don't worry man. Everybody plays the fool, some time.

He is certainly a good communicator which is half he battle.
Pretty much this. The much vaunted gameplan he's implemented isn't all that different from what Truck was trying to get them to play.

The difference was Truck couldn't get the message across, and he also played the odd player out of position ie McGrath, though Scott isn't immune to that as we've seen with Langford back.

Spot on. It's a challenge of working with people. Some personalities just don't fit together, and systems combined with the diversity of personalities, can complicate the nature of the production. And surprise, systems are designed and executed by people.

Right person for the right group at this time, and also the right system and execution of it for this group. Swap out a few personalities for a few others and it may not be as effectively received. Maybe Adam Saad is a good example of a player who realised this. Maybe Nick Hind is now another.

Expanding on that I think a number of our players have realised that after 2 coaching failures that they needed to look inward and as such are buying in more.

Brads ability to get the message across was exemplified in the post match pressers. In his presser, Brad speaking of the danger of taking the game lightly stated ‘you get what you deserve’ in these games. In every post game presser by Dons players, they all mentioned in their summary’s of the game, ‘you get what you deserve’.

Can't fault his coaching so far

I can fault his pressers. If a journo asks what your thoughts are about Ess being 6-5 at this point in the season, don't run off on a tangent about talking how Leigh Matthews, sheedy, and other past coaches couldn't coach wce's injuries last week. Stick to the topic. Feel like I'm listening to Brad Scott the AFL GM not Brad Scott the ess coach.

For a few weeks now I feel like he's done that to 1-2 questions. You're the Essendon coach. Focus on Essendon.

Didn't see it but that's exactly how he should handle his press conferences. Set the agenda yourself. Answer that question and it's twisted into putting pressure on the club. Should they make finals, does the coach think the current list up to it etc

**** em. How's the pressure treating you, West Coast?

I like that he showed a bit of humanity and sympathised with Simpson and denounced the media attention Simpson has received. He then went on to say quite clearly that it would be inappropriate for him to actually call and offer support to Simpson since he's the Essendon coach and his job is to be focused on us and be ruthless ... humanity but also clearly defining boundaries.

Guess people hear what they want to hear. I think he has been pretty clear and has offered a lot about what we are doing.

Seems to me we're getting done for holding the ball alot. Players get the ball, have a chance to dispose of it, then change their mind, look for another option and end up getting tackled. Is this part of the gameplan, better to stop the play for a few seconds and give up a free kick instead of just getting rid of it and potentially turning it over in open play?

There's a subtle forcefulness in the way he speaks, I think it puts the media in their place in a way Rutten's manner never could
Worsfold used to straight bat them, and edge a few to the slips every now and again. Rutten watched them through, sometimes onto the stumps. Brad has actually got some footwork.

Rutten was like Glenn Maxwell's leave when he got bowled in a BBL game, couldn't believe when we got thrashed by Geelong in RD 1 2022 and he rolled up the presser with a big smirk on his face and said jeez we didn't see that coming. So far so good from Scott.

A magnanimous approach that also deflects as much attention from us as possible is not only novel, it's something we should have been trying for some time.

I'm all for it.

One thing he is very good at is denying the headline. He did it on Footy Classified when asked about Sheedy, gave them the opposite of what they wanted. You could see the panel just tore up their their perceived headline.

He approaches with a straight bat and takes the emotion out of it. All this comes from experience from previous senior coach, working at afl house & umpire boss etc.

He also completely backs the players, Stringer comes to mind.
