The 31-year-old man has been missing since October 23 and Major Crime Squad detectives announced earlier this week that they were now treating Mr Pruiti's disappearance as a suspected homicide.

Police said this week that the discovery of Mr Pruiti’s burnt-out car in bushland recently led them to believe he had been murdered.His car, a 2000 Mitsubishi Magna, was found in bushland in Bartons Mill.

The Bartons Mill track is often frequented by four-wheel-drive or motocross enthusiasts.

Police believe human remains found in bushland at Karragullen, in the hills 31km southeast of Perth, may be those of missing man Michael Paul Pruiti.

Major crime detectives were searching an area of land off Dayle Road when they made the discovery, and although formal identification has not yet occurred, police believe the remains are those of Mr Pruiti, who went missing in late October.

Who kills someone under the pretext of stealing chainsaws? What else did he know? Too much obviously. The underlying MO for the murder?

Daniel Michael Marchesano lured Michael Pruiti, 31, to isolated bushland on the pretext of stealing chainsaws and then Ben Michael Mansfield shot him in the head in October 2013.

Mr Pruiti's body was then dismembered, set alight and buried in Perth's Hills region.

Marchesano was sentenced in the West Australian Supreme Court on Wednesday to a minimum of 23 years behind bars, while Mansfield will spend at least 26 years in prison.
