I would love inside info on the difference between Voss' media and inside the four walls' personas. I reckon he plays the media and the supporters on a break with "cuddly Vossy" persona
Think he's completely genuine. You don't fake that joy with a win and wanting to "check up on my boys". Reckon they'd think he's genuine too, for the harder conversations had behind closed doors.

Reckon Voss would be reminding Owies about Reiwoldt costing his club a title with dumb showboating.

Glad to be proven wrong here.
I was shocked at how different the middle of the year was compared to the start of 2022, or even '23, so I thought the players had lost all confidence in their coach.
Credit to the man for not only being open to change but for also implementing it.

It's genuine. He cares a lot and will run through walls for everyone... providing he believes you'll trust him and follow him.

Let him down through lack of effort or intent though... and all he'll breaks loose, he's ferocious and it's very hard to earn his trust again.

That's my insight from being around him 1999-2002

Now that we have reached my personal pass mark for our season, I will hold my hand up and say I was wrong about Voss. I wanted him out as little as 3 months ago. I didn’t think he had improvement in him and I thought he had lost the players.

The club is in a wildly different position and he is a massive part of that. Keep proving me and plenty of others wrong Vossy. The list is certainly capable of going the whole way.
Yeah pretty amazing, bloke was likely 1 or 2 loses away from getting the boot regardless of what Sayers or anyone else was saying.

Was never on the sack him train, thought it was better to at least let a coach see out their contract for once lol. But I definitely had precious little belief that he could turn anything around this season, I was sure wrong there.

Vossy not being pig headed like many/most other coaches and able to listen to constructive player feedback/criticsm and respond and adjust his gameplan and methods accordingly was

The boys know their opinions and feelings matter to the coach (maybe for the first time in many of their careers) and that has resulted in a real commited buy in from the players.

We will always look back fondly on Camp Curnow too where the players also had a heart to heart conversation with each other and bonding session !

Imagine being one if the greatest players of your generation, an outstanding leader who captains his club to three consecutive premierships.

Imagine being so highly thought of that upon retirement your club appoints you as coach.

You inherit an ageing list, win a final in your first year and take a gamble to replenish the list which doesn't pay off.

You get sacked and ridiculed. Would be easy to crawl away and lick your wounds or retire to the media. However you still think that you're cut out to be a coach so you become an assistant for seven years and take every opportunity to learn, better yourself and prepare yourself for when the opportunity arises.

Do you think that we have the right man at the helm?

geelong and Bomber thomson
Richmond and hardwick

Both were being axed by many and then look what happened.

Our impatience can be counterproductive

I was thinking about past discussions on here how the club should have hired Michael Voss to begin with instead of David Teague when we had the chance. This is actually a good sliding doors moment. Had the club hired Vossy and overlooked Teague (2018), there is a good chance that Vossy wouldn’t have lasted with the old administration and been fired around the same time David Teague was (2021). We of course wouldn’t have had the same list as we do today so the results would have been largely the same.

First coach since David Parkin in 2000 to take us back into a prelim final. Good on ya Vossy!

As much as i like Ratts, Vossy has overtaken him now after that win.
Voss has created an in built defensive mindset.
Parkin days we had it too.
Ratts could only dream about such a thing despite the similarities between Voss and Ratts as players.

Watching all the boys clearly beaten up and exhausted but still giving it all - its pure Voss. The gameplan, the attitudes the attack on the footy.. everything about it is Voss.
The secret player gathering.
They said a bbq but didnt mention the cloning machine.
Vossies dna transferred to the whole squad.

Deserves coach of the year.

I don't care what anyone says about player availability...

All that talk about not having Martin and Cunners in our forward line... we didn't have them in the last quarter last night... oh and a bloke named Harry McKay was missing and another bloke named Jack Silvagni was missing from that forward line too...

To take a team on the brink of implosion, sitting bottom 4 half way through the season, external noise about his tenure being done... to win 11 of the next 12 games into a prelim...

I don't think that's ever been done and probably never will happen again.

End of the day, the players won't perform unless they buy in and the coach is the one who has to make that happen.

Voss did just that.

A touch pedantic but if GWS wins today they've effectively accomplished the same. Bottom 4 after round 12, then won 10 of their next 12 to get into a semi.
