Interesting exercise in todays Sun.

A lot of people will rate Leigh Matthews as Number 1. Personally, I would choose Ivor Warne-Smith.

Whilst Matthews was more damaging inside 50, Warne-Smith had the advantage that he could play forward and back.

Most of the stuff Mike Sheahan writes is useful only if you run out of normal toilet paper.

What makes his opinion on the no.1 player better than anyone else's?
It's the most debated thing in football. Ablett, Carey and Matthew's.
And all he is gonna do is just start the stupid debate going again.

I don't think its at all interesting.

Being that I am 24, I can only really remember seeing players from the mid 90s onwards.

Yet many people who are in similar circumstances to me will be voting.

How can you vote for the best ever when you haven't seen the entire field?

Comparing footballers/racehorses/sportspeople in general from different eras is an age-old way to stimulate debate. Personally I find it interesting, though there can't ever be a resolution that is universally accepted.

But there's a lot of debate now about Shane Warne being better.

As much as I am a fan of Warney, 'The Don' is in a league of his own. His record has stood the test of time. No batsman has come close to emulating his sensational Test batting average of 99.94.

Warney, the best bowler of all time. Bradman the greatest cricketer of all time.

Nah fair enough Bradman>>>>>>> Warne.
But thats another debate on another forum.

mike will have craig bolton in the top 10.

he does rate him pretty high :D

im guessing he would put leigh matthews and ablett snr top 2 but i dont know

would be hard enough to do yourself, let alone guess what the frig mike sheehan thinks

my first attempt is

leigh matthews
ablett snr
carey
barassi
keith greig
royce hart
ted whitten
tony lockett
laurie nash
bob skilton

think ill drop bob and plugger maybe nash but i think ive read mike sheehan go on about him before might put bunton in or something

Who is that guy who played billiards? He was so much better then everyone else they banned him from playing... Eddie Charles maybe?

I don't know enough about either of their sports but Roger Federer and Tiger Woods will seemingly be remembered as favourably as Jordan. Assuming they continue at similar levels to that which they are at now.

Why has Mike Sheahan promoted VFL players ahead of those from the SANFL or the WAFL? I'd like to see how Barrie Robran, Garry McIntosh, Stephen Michael, Russell Ebert would've fared on Mike's list if they were eligible for selection.
