Brad Johnson, the first of 13 quarterbacks to throw Moss a touchdown, dropped this insanely absurd bit of information:

Johnson, a Vikings quarterback from 1994-98, offered some insights. According to Johnson, a two-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champ with Tampa Bay, Moss told him he would run full speed on deep routes against Darrell Green, Deion Sanders and Dale Carter, but rarely against lesser corners.

“The rest of them, he said, ‘If you will just throw it as far as you can, I’ll go get it,’ ” Johnson said. “That is unique for someone to say that. Usually, they are full tilt all the way. What is really cool about it was, if it was a jump ball, the defender was running at 100 percent at the tail end of the catch, and Randy would be at 80 percent and more under control for the jump ball.”

You read that right. If Moss wasn’t playing the best of the best he played at a slower pace to give himself an ADVANTAGE.

SKOR North's Darren Wolfson reports Vikings first-round LT Christian Darrisaw (core muscle surgery) saw a specialist in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Darrisaw's recovery from core muscle surgery reportedly "continues to be an issue," which forced him to see a specialist regarding his return. Coach Mike Zimmer recently described the injury as one “nagging all the time," going as far to say the rookie has been "one step forward and two steps back." The Vikings re-signed veteran Rashod Hill as insurance but will likely have to lean on him by default in Week 1 (and for an unknown period beyond that).

Free agent DE Everson Griffin will work out for the Vikings.
Griffin opened the 2020 season with the Cowboys but the loss of Dak Prescott put the team into a short-lived rebuild. With little hope of competing sans Prescott, they traded Griffin to Detroit after Week 7. Before 2020, Griffin had spent a decade as a Viking. At 33 years old, Griffin is no longer the dominant pass-rusher he once was. However, he remains a dependable option for generating pressure and taking down opposing quarterbacks. Griffin has tallied at least 5.5 sacks in 10 consecutive seasons. Minnesota's defense ranked 28th in sacks last year and the team didn't make any massive acquisitions to address that deficiency. Reuniting with Griffin would be an affordable way to give their defensive line a much-needed boost.

It's a sign too that Patrick Jones and Janrius Robinson are busts. Both got a little time in preseason and looked ineffective.

Vikings signed DE Everson Griffen.
After spending a decade in Minnesota, Griffen, 33, played for the Cowboys in 2020 before Dallas traded him to Detroit at mid-season. Griffen won't be the dominant pass-rushing force he was in the first half of his career but he could be used as a rotational pass rusher for a Vikings team that struggled mightily to put pressure on the quarterback in 2020. Pro Football Focus graded Minnesota's pass rush as the league's worst by a wide margin last season. Griffen should be a boost for Mike Zimmer's defense.

Vikings placed DE Janarius Robinson on injured reserve.
The Vikings added Robinson in the fourth round of the draft this spring. Robinson's injury is unknown but the timing of Minnesota bringing back Everson Griffen, who signed with them this morning, makes even more sense now. A pass-rush specialist who didn't exactly stuff the stat sheets at Florida State, Robinson was unlikely to play a significant role early in his career. Once healthy and activated from injured reserve, Robinson will look to earn some snaps on obvious passing downs.

Everson Griffen will apologize to Kirk Cousins for tweets from earlier this year

Yes, the Vikings have re-signed a defensive end who once said the team’s starting quarterback “is ass.”

Everson Griffen, a long-time member of the team who played for the Cowboys and Lions in 2020, posted in January a couple of tweets that he regrets about Kirk Cousins. Via Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Griffen told reporters on Monday that he will apologize to Cousins for the messages.

“I’m just going to talk to Kirk and apologize to him and have a man-to-man conversation and we’re going to leave it like that,” Griffen said.

Griffen, in addition to tweeting that Cousins “is ass,” said this: “Ask [coach Mike] Zimmer if he wanted Kirk????

Zimmer told reporters on Monday that Griffen will be a “situational player” with the Vikings. Defensive tackle Michael Pierce will allow Griffen to reclaim No. 97.

Apology or not, the fact that the Vikings brought Griffen back after what he said about Cousins could be interpreted as a slap at Cousins. Slap or not, it comes at a time when Zimmer is surely exasperated by the quarterback’s illogical anti-vaccine stance, especially since it means that Cousins will be tested every day, and that if he tests positive he’ll automatically be gone for at least 10 days.

So, basically, in a moment of candor and/or after a glass or two of Caymus, Zimmer quite possibly would currently agree with Griffen’s two-word description from earlier in the year

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Irv Smith (meniscus surgery) will miss the start of the season.
Pelissero noted that Smith will be out for "at least the start of the regular season." Smith was touted as a breakout candidate by many but an indefinite timetable to return should remove him from all draft boards. Tyler Conklin, who head coach Mike Zimmer has previously talked up, will step in as Minnesota's starting tight end. Conklin could open the season as a streaming option for teams that punted tight end. Smith could reemerge as the third pass-catching option for the Vikings when healthy.
