Geelong's 2023 Mid Season Draft Pick.

Racking up the possessions and coaches votes in the VFL, but just cannot crack the senior team despite our midfield woes. Suggests for whatever reason, he is not in the picture at the Cattery, and will almost certainly look elsewhere if he doesn't get a shot.

Would suit anyone looking for a mature accumulator-type mid, and you'd basically get him for nothing.

What teams would take him?

Better question,
What midfield in the comp would he be in there best 5/6 mids

No where is the only answer I come up with

How many of these fringe mids at Geelong go to other clubs and turn out to be good?

Constable, Horlin-Smith, Smedts, etc.. I think Chris Scott may be an ok judge.

No other club will come for hardie in a trade. Mannagh on the other hand...
Genuinely shocked that Mannagh has barely had a look in. I expected him to take the competition almost by storm, or at least be a solid contributor for the AFL team. Looked like he was absolutely primed and ready to go.
From all reports he has been a good performer at VFL level all season. Why recruit a 27 yet old to play on the 2s? He must be wishing another club took him.

The part I doubt get is people saying that we definitely had a plan for him to play seniors immediately because of his age.

He has 5 years in the tank. Most draftees don't have that at 18. He provides depth and options should we want to change the role of a small. He provides pressure on spots. He's a stengle signature away from being best 22.

Drafting mannagh made perfect sense

Using a 2nd Rd pick on a player that’s 26 years old, whether in the draft or trading it, you’d expect the player to have been targeted for an immediate impact at AFL level.

But the season is still only half way through so that could still happen.

Can't he just have been the best available?
“Best available” is a pretty loose concept 36 picks into a draft. Even so, I doubt anyone would rate a 26 year old as “best available” based on what he might do in three years, like a regular draftee, when he’ll be 29 years old I.e. it would be based on what he could offer immediately. Perhaps that was just depth. Still half a season to play. I just think it’d be a bit unusual to use a 2nd Rd pick on a 26 year old that wasn’t targeted to fill an AFL role.

Geelong have general done some unusual things. Just think they wanted some back up in case a small went down.
