Seriously?

All four had injury interrupted years last year. Tex and Sloane missed the equivalent of an entire season plus change. Sauce carried his injury almost all year and Eddie had multiple interruptions dating back to the pre-season.

Almost all four of them were AA squad members last season

All of those players had consistently strong years leading into 2018, more than half of them arguably had 'career years' heading into 2017 - so please define "for a long time"

Edit: All four WERE named in the 40 man AA squad last year....

And all four of them are entering the back end of their careers. Like I said my hope is that they do. And if you are right and all 4 of them are back to their AA squad form of last year, then we are going to be right up there. Is that what your claiming? That injury free, these 4 guys are going to be AA squad contenders next year. If so, great. Lets see if you are right. I will be thrilled.

We got reamed.

Let's just hope our recruiters can turn the picks into gold like they usually do. Only part of our club I actually have faith in.

Do you really think Reid would do that?

Just go on the radio and tell lies?

Of course. It's an extension of the truth with the benefit of selling that the club is very confident in a certain player.

Two fold effect, it makes the player feel wanted and it sells hope to supporters, something that is a big part of a new player.

I don’t care what mcadams rating is. We’ll never know. If he performs like Liam Ryan - yee hah

But I can’t get past the comment in the wa press back in 2015 that called him a “chance to get drafted” now this was after his good combine showing and pre injury. So presumably him at his best

How does a fit and healthy young bloke go from chance to be drafted to 3 years later being 10-15 (per Reid) on a handful of SANFL games?

Doesn’t make sense. If we’re backing his attributes and talent, he had those same ones when he was an outside shot at being picked up

Because he wasn't a fit and healthy young bloke. He was carrying an extra 10 kilos and ate meat pies for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mattner mentored him into AFL shape.

The only reason Kelly got a chance was because Cheney was injured. To be fair, Kelly did perform well in 2018... but then returned to his normal level of incompetence in 2019.

Ummmm so his normal level of incompetence being what, his first 10 senior games he played in his first season in 2015??

Give the lad a break, his main goal heading into 2017 was just to play 22 games, as a 3rd year player with 10 games to his name ffs.

If the club judged talent like you do we'd be delisting every fourth year player on our list :drunk:
I sincerely hope Tom Doedee backs up his form next year or he'll be next on your 'whipping boy' list.

Kelly had a down year being used in a role he'd never EVER been exposed to, least not at the elite level, dating all the way back to high school, to give you some perspective

The level of naivety around here sometimes is mind boggling. Yeah, let's just delist or trade one of our most competitive <24 yr old small defenders who can also play tall, is a left footer and regularly puts his own body and health on the line for his teammates, who has only just reached 50 games and has one of if not equal to the best tanks at the club. I mean shit, there's plenty of those types going around in the AFL currently aren't there? :drunk:

Kelly is probe to the odd brain fade; his defensive positioning needs work more than anything, but he would die for this club and his teammates, and to chastise the lad without even considering the reasons for his recent form issues this early in his career is just deplorable.

Get some perspective.

Well, that was fun

My post back on page 107 wasn't too far off the mark

See you next year :D

In so far as it was 1 extra pick it's not far off. When you consider that the second pick was worth close to exactly the same as the other one given up, it's a fair way off.

Why?

We rated gore based on his supposed outstanding vfl form

He does at least have attributes that translate to the AFL with speed, leap and agility, unlike Gore. I'll however believe he would have gone "inside the top 20" when I see him performing as such on an AFL field.

Ryan goes 24 in a weaker draft off the back of kicking 73 goals in a season and this guy is a 15-20 pick in this draft? Righto...

I looked at a few phantom drafts and nobody had him top 25.

Now the question is do the phantoms match the real draft?

I think the first 10-12 usually play out fairly well as has been the case in the past 2-3 drafts.

This year though is interesting, we could get some interesting sliders.

I know the Crows policy is going to be to take the best available, but it will be interesting if there is other SA kids available at our pick and they may be rated the 2nd best at that pick.

AFC have won 65% of their games over the last 3 seasons. No tiny, weeny, little bit of faith in Pyke and the players?? I mean, just a little, tiny drop of faith... microscopic even??

I wouldn't be using Ryan's draft position as a pointer to his ability or as a comparison to McAdam. Most clubs wouldn't go anywhere near Ryan due to his off-field issues. If it was on pure footballing ability alone, he would've been picked much higher.
