They’re all already past their best , side they will play good games but we won’t be great until they are not our best players and guys like Laird Smith Milera crouches galluci Fogarty are

Betts is past is best.
Sloane has 1 injury affected year that does not mean his best footy is behind him.
Gibbs still played to every high standard in 2017.
Walker had no pre-season and played injured throughout the year.

Definitely possible. Do you think Tex will be back to his 2016 form with a good reset? I think he is the biggest factor in what we can do next year. Will Eddie Betts kick 60 or 30? Can Sloane break a tag next year and get back to being one of the best mids in the AFL? Will Matt Crouch play like he did in 2016 or 2017. Can Sauce break even or is he cooked? Some pretty huge turn arounds to what we saw in the last couple of months of football is needed. Pretty much all of those things need to turn in our favour at the same time if we are to give it a shake.
I think we need to stop thinking of the players you just listed as our only stars. Realistically our stars are going to quickly transition into Milera, Doedee, Smith, Seedsman, Fog, Gooch and fingers crossed some draftees this year and some developmental guys in the magoo’s.

Those other guys are great players but we know their ceiling, and some of them may or are be on the way back down from it.

Posted a few time on the Port board thread re. Did they win the Burgoyne trade?

The trade wasnt too bad, (2 first rounders) they just stuffed the selections/development.

Instead of Moore they could have got Talia who went a few picks later.
Instead of Pittard they could have got Fyfe who went a few picks later.

If they selected Talia and Fyfe they would have won the trade hands down but Moore and Pittard saw them lose the trade - even though the trade was identical.

Pick 10-13 for Gov is OK, if we stuff the pick that is on us - not the trade.

Ask youself if we got pick 3 for Gov and that player ended up a Toumpas would you say the trade for pick 3 sucked?

As long as the trade is around the mark pick wise it is up to the club selecting to get the "value" out of the pick.
I'm staggered that they could have taken Talia and Fyfe, and didn't. Were there other factors involved eg their needs for certain KP players?
However, I'm looking at it through 2018 eyes, well after Talia and Fyfe have become elite players.
How was their selection viewed at the time, do you remember? (btw, I'm very happy those two aren't with Port)

Can Sauce break even or is he cooked?
Yeah, this is THE big question.
I saw Reid on the AFC site talking about JJ as back-up to Sauce, ROB bouncing back from his injury and Himmelberg coming on too.
That's fine IF Jacobs improves his form, but his tapwork (straight to his own feet or oppo mids) and around-the-ground work (goalkicking, marking from kick-outs, marking in F50) were awful in 2018 :(.

So I decided to have a rewatch of the last game of the season and one thing I noticed was the Mitch will fit in perfectly at Carlton in respect to his kicking skills. They were either high bombs in a general direction of one of our player, a short kick or pinpoint pass that never really made the distance. It really was not good kicking, and explains why he is sometimes a good kick for goal and most of the times not.

Yeah, there’s a lot of “ifs” with regards to our ruck department when we’ve essentially locked into pushing for a premiership in the next 2 years. Another ready made, experienced ruckman on the list would just help mitigate the risk, no need to break the bank, but some level of ready made back up at least.

Plus they took the Butcher as a single digit pick - that was 3 picks before Fyfe went.

All clubs have drafting stuff ups but their 3 picks in the top 16 were atrocious. Really should nail 2 out of 3 - to miss all 3 was very special.

Well the post was talking about our flag chances next year. Take away those players I mentioned (or keep them, but at 2018 form levels) then we cant win one. I think we have a shot at a flag, but only with those players I mentioned getting back to top form.

He had a crook back, so they'll be expecting the improvement to come from him being healthier and ROB also being healthy so we can rest him if we need to.

As for the tap work, that's on the coaches.

GC are losing May, Lynch and KK...Even Carlton couldn't lose to them next year.

Don't underestimate how shit Carlton are, nor the potential of Dews gameplan clicking.

There is enough talent at Gold Coast that improvement is not out of the question despite that. Also fixing structures and getting workrate to improve would pay off massively at the bottom end.

I'm not underestimating how bad Carlton are, I still think they would lose to Norwood, but GC seem the worse team by a fair way to me

It's not the end of the table that quality makes a huge difference to the fortunes of a side, both are terrible.

Whoever comes out on top of those two is more just who can make a game-plan stick and institute better standards. Bolton can't do that, seeing he's failed at that for about 3 years, Dew has a chance to be able to do that.

McGovern fits this, if I'm guessing .....

Understand that the exit interview might not be as the player expected but surely the club would have been pointing out their flaws out during the year. That is how you manage performance or underperformance in the business world.

You don’t go to your final performance evaluation and be for want of another word, be blindsided or surprised. If that is the case the club is derelict in its duty.

I agree ....but players ego's these days are far more fragile ....they're far more used to being idiolized

My response nowadays to millennials is “eat a spoonful of concrete and harden up ffs”
You're not allowed to say this these days :p .....it's considered not having empathy & bullying o_O
