That may be a rumor but just to add some more fuel to the fire on AFL360 tonight they confirmed that May has stated he wants out of the GC. Now that he has confirmed he wants out and given that the GC has indicated earlier that they wouldn't keep him if he wanted out does this add more pressure on the GC to look at a bloke like McGov. I would have thought so. I mean no key forward and now no key defender.
What club's has he talked to?

Gaff is a restricted free agent. There is no way that West Coast will accept pick 18ish for Gaff.

The trading on draft day should enable clubs to get closer to full value for their gohomeboys.

It's incredibly unlikely they have the cap space to match Gaff even if they wanted to.

Especially when you're talking an amount that Gaff could quite feasibly be in the top 5 paid players in the game with a move to the Saints, I would say West Coast are simply going to be stuck with a late first for him.

There is a difference between wanting to do something, and being actually capable of doing something without breaching salary cap rules, and I would say there is no possible way West Coast could match an offer for Gaff.

Wouldn’t that suggest the opposite? They don’t have the cash given what they spent on Gov?
Let’s say West Coast has budgeted $800K a year for Gaff. Prior to the end of the draft period they will have some mid ranged players unsigned to ensure they can match say $1.2M a year. Whoever wants Gaff will not want to risk losing him and end up with a shitload of unused salary cap space. We did squeeze a reasonable return for Dangerflog even though it was well below market value. West Coast will finish no lower than 4th and probably top two. They can not afford to only receive a compensation pick, which could be in the twenties, in return for Gaff.

That's 500k they have to find, and not only that, you're factoring in that they've also given McGovern a payrise.

Could make it feasibly 700k+ they need which is sacrificing another B/A player off a list to match Gaff. Lycett isn't the answer either as he'd be decently close to base pay being a back up ruck at the time he signed a contract.

The only way West Coast could match is either McKenzie was on a big wage or someone else wants to leave. That's it. The other point to consider is West Coast may still chose to not risk a match in case (lets say) 1.3 million is enough to make Gaff stay, potentially tying up approximately 20% of their salary cap in two players.

Lycett is a restricted free agent so he's in the top earners at West Coast. Getting rid of him will save a ton of cash.

Fairo, what on earth are West Coast doing with their salary cap management?

Pie's, Hawk's & Richmond all wanted Lynch.

Richmond won, now pie's & hawk's are after May & clearly both club's are confident they can make a trade with limited trade chip's.

1) The loser of this race will be a late contender for McGovern

2) If not what the winner in the May race will have to pay could come our way

The bottom 8 clubs will spend all their money on midfielders and lot's of money apart from Fremantle who will likely throw their wallet at a ruckman

I will be keeping a close eye on Pie's, Hawk's & Sun's

I'm more worried that our club doesn't rate McGovern and wants him gone.

He came in fat, hardly played a decent game all year - I think Carey's statement shows you what the club thinks.

They may disagree with us on what "overs" is.

That being said, Reid has been impressive, so hopefully I'm concerned over nothing.

So you have come in off the bat and dropped a couple of rumors, which is fine. I wish more people with info would do the same, but this board has a habit of bashing anyone as a troll who does, esp a newbie like yourself.

What I want to know is
1) are you a reincarnation of an old account, your avatar suggests this or it's a clue that you are posting in tribute to the great "Big Fish" storm of '16

2) what is your source, or sauce, saws. No specifics just general direction.

I was on BF once before a long time ago but under a different name that i won't go back to.

All I will offer is direction & say no more as the BF forum should be open for any content.

Poster's should only take interest for what they want, stop slamming rumour's or newbie's as trolls if you want the overall quality of BF to improve

In regards to McGovern i suggest keeping eyes in the direction i suggested but this will TWIST. So to all the poster's clearly this is not a rumour it's a post.

Dont listen to vic media it has a bad flavour

Open for interpretation

He's obviously a Grocer: look at those apostrophes! The keener among you can search the archives for an incorrigible apostrophe user to narrow down his past life. ;)

I notice that Barrett is imploring Freo to force Neale to stay, yet is trying to "blackmail" us to let McGov go. What inconsistency! Clearly this is not the normal VIC-non-VIC bias, but some other sort.

I saw that this morning and laughed to myself. I wonder what the criteria is for a player to fall on either side of "let him go" / "he must stay"?
