McGovern is our player, signed and contracted for 2 more years. We're not shopping him around, it's Carlton who are supposedly trying to prise him away. We tell them what we'll accept, and that's it. It's up to them to produce it, if they're interested. If they're not interested (or can't afford the price), worst case is we keep a very good player and take an already strong hand to the draft.

Given the standard of their player development, even if they get the good one he'll still end up being the dud one.

I think it will end up being along the lines of the following:

Adelaide: Pick 13 and McAdam
Sydney: 24 and 25 (need Blakey points - a bid will come in before 13 for him anyway).
Carlton: McGovern plus late change from Sydney (maybe in the 60s).

Gives us 7, 13, 15, 19..... Enough capital to move up to a St Kilda or Freo Pick.

It's not the motherload that we want for McGovern but its practical and gives us room to move.

If it ended up that way, then a bundle of picks 13, 15 & 19 for pick 4 from St Kilda (who don't have a pick until much later in the draft after 4) could be a goer with a 2019 2nd or 3rd coming back to us. Leaves us with 4, 8 & 37 after Lynch compo + McAdam and I would happily take that to the draft - think Rankine 100% and Rozee or even one of the king twins for the 1st 2 picks

Couldn’t agree more. I was one of those guys convinced we would get Gibbs on the cheap last year. But the bottom line is he was contracted. And we had to pay the piper. Same goes here!

And CFC shouldn’t be surprised about it, You can’t set a precedent and then be shocked when people use it against you

I just want Rankine. He looks like the guy that will either be our most exciting player to watch, or the guy that will continually bury us playing for another team!

Just saw that, co-hosts were asking Judd if CFC are interested in Gov and Judd confirms it. Then Hutchy & Caro say that Gov has nominated CFC to be traded to, though Judd doesn't say anything about the nom.

Of the recent and most significant Club-leavers, it's clear that Jake Leaver and MitchMc have $s as their priority. Chris Judd confirmed on Footy Classified last night that MMc is in Carlton's sights which was no big secret anyway. With Port likely to get pick 4 (https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/af...e/news-story/50aa9995716b2deb3cc588af146fcce2), the Crows have even more urgent reasons to get best value for MMc to ensure they get a pick before that.
The Trade period is going to be fascinating.

Gov is one of my favourite players, I don’t want him to leave. And if he does, the team who gets him better pay out the damn arse for him

We certainly paid a premium and many of us were furious at the time. In hindsight it’s looking ok with Weller finishing 3rd in the B&F and playing every game and the pick we received in return became Charlie Ballard.
