Something else we pondered today and it is worth asking the question here.

Has McGovern ever been trialled in an onball/midfield role ??

If so, how did he go ??
When he first came into the side, he played a bit as a wingman. I liked him in the role, but would need to build up his tank to play solid midfield minutes.

No I totally agree it is going to be complicated and expensive. What I really mean is that if we can get Luko then Gov becomes expendable. If we can't get Luko then he is a lot more important to us.
Reverse engineering if you like. I just can't see us trading Gov for whatever we can get and then trying to trade up, I think it will be if we can get a trade that gets us Luko then we will come to the party otherwise we keep him.
Personally I think if Carlton is the trade partner we would need to add 2 firsts, probably Melb pick and next years first.

Hell yeah, we’re going backwards next year if we let him go.
How much did losing Charlie hurt? I’d say quite a bit and losing another fast forward when we have precious few ain’t going to help. We will be trying to bounce back up the ladder after this years glitch. Another rookie ain’t gunna propel us back up the ladder like a fit and firing McGovern will.

Are we able to use the Cameron trade as a benchmark?

Mitch McGovern is a key position player, has better skills and is contracted for 2 extra years instead of 1. Does that mean we should get better than the pick 12 we got for Cameron?

And he’s being offered a whole lot more to boot. It all goes into the mix.
So yes of course.

What I cannot believe is the thinking behind some of our own supporters. I'm sure that last year they thought that Mitch was, if not better than Lever, he was at least as good or as valuable. I believe that some of them are now saying that he's worth a pick between 11-18~. We did get 2 firsts from an uncontracted Lever and they are now saying that we should accept a pick 11-18 for a contracted McG.
How the hell should we accept that?

2 firsts in the 6-13 range or a single one of 1-3.
I’d still rather have him for 2 more years.

Yeah, I’ve found it funny that some are flippantly saying a pick 12 pp should satisfy us..

The ****ing lot of us should be sending emails to the club demanding we accept nothing less than a high first or two firsts in the teens.. these Carlton scum bags held us over a barrel with Gibbs.. time to return the favour... if we don’t we’ll look like a weak club that everyone can easily walk all over.

When McGovern gets a couple of seasons without injury interrupting them under his belt he will be as good as his million dollar brother. You watch. The lad is a gun.

I personally hope we keep him... trade up to get Rankine and then ring Lukosius once a week over the next two years, whilst he’s playing for the suns, telling him we want him to come home and play for us the minute his first contract is up.. and hey presto... in two years gov’s current contract is up and the currency we get for him, if he still wants to move, we can use on a Luko trade.

Someone please put fagans email address up and let’s all hammer the blokes inbox... elite crow, you’ve got it haven’t ya?

IIRC I thought Sauce was surplus to their requirements given they had Kreuzer and IIRC another ruckman who was ahead of Sauce as well.
They had Hampton & Warnock (plus Kreuzer), but they were well aware that Sauce was the best ruckman of the lot. They didn't want to let him go, unlike Eddie who they basically pushed out the door.

If Kruzer hadn't been injury prone, Jacobs would never have got a game.

That bloke was something else.

Agree.. based on what we got for lever and cc...top pick is not fantasy at all.

Yep. Pick 1 outright. It’s way overs but that’s the price. Pay or GTFO.

Don’t care if it doesn’t get done. We keep him. Win/win
How is keeping him a win. He doesn't want to be there. Do you honestly think that Pyke wants a player on the list that doesn't want to be there. I don't really csre if ends up at Carlton either but your'e Sith Lord approach to trading won't see Adelaide win anything from this.

You obviously haven't seen how SOS works. We'll just send him to Freo for their first. Problem solved.

Until you understand his motives for leaving ....you can't comment

How’s it different to Gibbs staying for last year?

Why? He requested to be traded and therefore doesn't want to be there. I don't know what his motive is and maybe it will come out at a later date but his motive aside, he doesn't want to be there.
However we've said he's welcome back

Gibbs wanted to get to Adelaide a year earlier, but professionally kept playing for your team.

O'Keefe wanted out of Sydney & they refused to trade him & he ended up staying winning a flag.

Gov still turned up to the club champion awards, gets on well with his teammates & has a good relationship with Pyke... So sure he would professionally play on with us if a trade can't be arranged.

On the rare occasions Kreuzer has managed to present fully fit>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jacobs.
