More front office shenanigans around the league. The Cincinnati Reds are promoting Jeff Graupe from vice president of player acquisition/strategy to assistant GM, according to The Athletic. He joins Sam Grossman in that role, and follows the promotion of Brad Meador from AGM to GM a few weeks ago, reporting to president of baseball operations, Nick Krall.
As previously noted, Kim Ng recently departed the Marlins after declining her side of a mutual option that would have kept her in the role for 2024. According to the Miami Herald, the Marlins owner Bruce Sherman had some concerns regarding player development and drafting apparatus, particularly with respect to position players. The Marlins have drafted catcher Joe Mack, infielder Kahlil Watson and infielder Jacob Berry, and all three of them struggled in their respective professional careers, with Watson having departed the club after being traded to Cleveland at the trade deadline. According to the Miami Herald, Sherman wanted to bring in a president of baseball operations in order to have that person lead the restructuring of the amateur scouting and player development departments in the front office, as well as having a hand's-on role in those areas.
Former Astros GM James Click is the latest candidate to withdraw his name from consideration for the vacant position at the Red Sox. Click spoke with the Red Sox about the opportunity but decided to cease pursuing it citing family considerations.
The Atlanta Braves have promoted Ronit Shah to the role of scouting director. He was effectively holding that role throughout 2023 after previously serving as assistant scouting director under Dana Brown, who became the Astros' GM last season.
The New York Mets will pursue external candidates for their vacant position of manager, according to The Athletic. This would appear to rule out former Oakland Athletic Eric Chavez and third base coach Joey Cora (brother of Red Sox manager Alex Cora) from the role, while it likely also removes Carlos Beltran from the list of candidates, since he was engaged as a special assistant to the GM earlier this year. The Mets have long been linked to Brewers skipper Craig Counsell, who managed Milwaukee under Stearns and whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
The Baltimore Orioles have signed RHP Nate Webb to a two year minor league deal, with an invitation to Spring Training. A 34th round draft selection of the Kansas City Royals back in 2016, Webb last pitched competitively in 2022. He was non-tendered by the Royals in November 2022 and signed with the Pirates on a minor league deal last year. However, he missed the entirety of the 2023 season rehabbing Tommy John surgery.

Mets’ new manager will come from outside the organization: sources
In essence, the Mets' search for an external candidate eliminates Carlos Beltrán, Joey Cora and others already in-house.
