News Motlop Almost Quit

A very revealing article in many ways, and just goes to show how far we BF posters are removed from the realities of the AFL and the way it impacts and affects each player - each in their own way and how fragile that makes their career.

Off-field hardships acknowledged - he's certainly not alone in terms of recent child-related crises/tragedies among our current list - I'm not sure how this translates into his 'team last' lairising and well-publicised spats with a certain teammate and his girlfriend.

Still, good to see things are coming together for him on a personal level and this can result in all of us enjoying what he's truly capable of.

"I want to show people how good I was and that one year of off-field issues isn't going to write me off."

Fitting final sentence. Lets hope this outlook remains clear during the season and we can see Mots enjoying his footy and playing well.

From what i've heard about his preseason, we might finally see the good stuff from Mots again. I know it's cliche to say it, but he'll be almost like a new recruit if we can get him firing.

Expect more of this, does anyone have the footage of Motts paying respect to the Port Adelaide guernsey from a game a couple of years ago at Footy Park/Aami after he kicked a goal?

Rucci's not convinced he's mended his ways entirely yet.

Daniel Motlop needs to learn new tricks
Michelangelo Rucci

THIS is about "tough love". Daniel Motlop needs another newspaper clipping to pin on his locker.

If the so-called reformed and revived specialist forward is to help Port Adelaide - and in the bargain stay at the Power beyond this AFL season - someone needs to tell him as it is.

I reckon its Rucci thinking he can help. I'm not convinced... and to be honest I wouldn't want Daniel to stop doing the 'freaky', its what makes him him, just not all the time, he has to know when and where.

I wouldn't like to see the dummy spits and stare downs that Rucci suggest happened though.

If you're 29 in 2 weeks and haven't learnt by now how to mesh the fantastic with the mundane you're never going too.

I'm with you, mot to mention TWS if he goes to GWS we win big if it's as our contracted player.

It would be a good fit for him too with Choco and Sheedy

Without wishing to "have a go" (as they might be a young child) I am simply really struggling to read his post.... here is my take on it:

Really, it is interesting to know this infomation. For too long now people have expected "famous" people to have no lives outside of their work. I do feel horrible for doubting the great man. I hope he comes back this year and mauls them all. Like in 2007 starting with a big one against GWS.

Thanks Kaysee, I had more trouble with the post than the user name.

In 2days paper it looks like Rucci's changed his mind.

"Motlop earns respect
Funny isn't it? The one Port Adelaide player who supposedly lost the faith of his team-mates- Daniel Motlop- now is one of the the very few men worthy of keeping at Alberton. Motlop has found team ethos. When he did it once, it seemed a reaction. In his second game, it became a trend. Now it's clearly a habit- worthy of recognition from a Power player giving substance to his vow to change his ways".

Props to Motlop he played well against Gold Coast. 4 goals and at least 2 goal assists.
