This is exactly what happened. Can see the Weagles blokes core body tense up as he tries to shrug and twist out of the tackle. It was was never going to succeed with the momentum of Cameron and him falling back.

Pathetic call from tribunal who it seems has put all the motion and intent on Cameron. 3 weeks for a stock standard tackle? flipping joke of a game. **** this and **** this game.

You know yourself a suspension is harsh yet want consistency on bad decisions?
Priorities are wrong imo. Let’s not keep being incompetent because incompetence is a consistent thing.

People want consistency because it creates expectation and draws a line around actions and outcomes. In the sporting world people want consistency with the basic facts because any nuance would invite grey and the grey is where people find seem to find "Match fixing" or unfairness.

In these instances, the AFL has basically done the consistency themselves. If you tackle and a player is concussed then you will be cited for suspension. The AFL is happy with this because when it comes time for any future court cases they can turn around and say "Hey we said any contact that leads to a concussion would be outside of the rules and a suspend-able offence". The AFL then can leave it up to the clubs and then the independent tribunal to then make the decision.

This Cameron tackle and the Bedford tackle on Tim Taranto both shouldn't be a cited offense. It is part of the "Shit Happens" part of the game that can never be legislated out no matter how hard the AFL tries.

It really is getting to the point where everyone needs to take a deep breath and say "Ok, there are risks when playing AFL like there are risks with a heap of other jobs. We will rule out malicious actions and always provide the best care for concussed players based on the most up to date research. However there are going to be accidents and the players need to accept that. If they can't accept that then they can no longer play AFL professionally".

By the letter of the Law the Heeney suspension was correct. The law is just poorly written.

It should be written so it stops the incidents like Houli on Lamb in 2017 where there was the wild swing back and Lamb was sent to next week. Heeney didn't swing wildly or even with malicious force. If he got Webster's chest it would of been enough force to just get him off balance but Webster slipped at the wrong moment and that was when the push occured.

The AFL has these "Common Sense" rulings for incidents that don't require common sense (see that game where Richmond should of been given a 50) but then don't have any when there is a clear "cause and effect" type of event. There will be a day were a player is out for 5+ weeks because they went to tackle a player and literally 1/4 of a second before contact the tackled player slips which causes a concussion.

Disappointed that Stewart wasn’t suspended. There is no place in AFL to have eyes only for the footy and clip someone. Careless and dangerous, should have got a week.

Probably correct by the inflexible MRO guidelines so the tribunal is the only place to get it adjusted to something less manifestly disproportionate to the act.

Will be stunned if the final result is 3 weeks. Great test case.

Should get 4 weeks by giving him his good guy week for proving he isn’t such a fair player after all.

Aren't players taught to turn their bodies to protect themselves when approaching the footy and isn't that exactly what Davies has done here? Jones' fumble is unfortunate, but not Davies fault, and once Jones fumbles shouldn't he be turning into the footy rather than going head first?

Only think a free because he did have both arms “pinned” and it did result it a concussion

But still a 50\50 call that could go either way as far as a free

The AFL really need to introduce team ribbons, far safer option than wrapping your arms around the opponent. Hopefully they do it sooner rather than later.

"This (never having been suspended) alone would not be enough in our view to result in us necessarily describing it as an exemplary record or, if it was, to exercise our discretion to downgrade"

They then go on to cite

1) Was on lower end of careless and was much smaller than the player he tackled
2) No injury from the player who was tackled, bounced straight back up
3) character references

There is a long history of character references being used at the tribunal (Bachar Houli getting a reference from Waleed Aly?)



As usual the media have been their shit old selves and cherry picked one little bit of it and run with the GOOD BLOKE TAX headlines. Everyone latched on. Completely ignored 2 of the 3 factors the tribunal cited as well as the fact that the tribunal directly said this is not enough on its own to reduce the penalty.

If you read the text of the decision it looks a lot more reasonable but no one did.
