Just having a look at the lists of mid season drafts so far, seems like the vast majority are busts than not. Some clubs passing entirely of course, but only like 2, maybe 3, that actually get anywhere from it.

Clubs may adapt though and put more and more time into scouting 50/50 players in the previous ND/RD they want to track for the MSD.

Does anybody know if the players taken from state leagues in the MSD reduced the amount taken from these leagues in the ND?

To a degree but it doesn't look compelling enough to create a list spot. If somebody goes down for the season in the next three weeks sure, hand out a six month deal (nothing more) but if the list is "fit" (including Comben still at the ten week turnaround) then we can argue any criticism. The whole point of the creation of the MSD is to fill gaps with LTI's, not draft for the future - the latter is just a bonus if it gets nailed.

Always respect your view, but I've got a different take; the MSD is an opportunity to attract talent in a regulated labour market, so every avenue is important. It's just we've been crap at it (much like the rest of our recruiting); if we'd had Collingwood's strike rate (noble and johnson - 2 out of 4), we'd be finding a list spot quick smart

I don't disagree, I was merely pointing out why the AFL brought in the MSD to begin with. The problem is we can't just create a pick if nobody is injured and we have the extra double whammy of already having a player on our list replacing somebody on the LTI.

If we can’t pick up a guy from the states leagues that can’t instantly perform better than half our list, then we should sack the entire scouting department. Our list is beyond garbage and we should be taking every opportunity to get more talent through the door.

Riley Stoddart had another 26 disposal game for Frankston today. A damaging lefty accumulator across half back would be very handy, although not a pressing priority. Think he could play as a wingman at AFL level.

Casey Voss also in the bests again for Sturt in the SANFL. Had 20 disposals and 9 marks, playing more up the ground.
