This is so bad. Safranko was bailed after near choking his 67yo mother to death, it's alleged he went back the next day and killed her and her cat before setting the house on fire.

Sydney man Troy Safranko, who allegedly murdered his own mother, just one day after being released on bail for attacking her, has refused to appear in court.

Officers discovered his mother, Katherine Safranko, with devastating injuries at the property. She did not survive.
Police allege Troy Safranko stabbed the 67-year-old woman to death, killed the family cat and tried to burn down the home.

Safranko was taken to Bankstown police station and then hospital on Monday before being released to front court on Tuesday.

He did not appear in court and will remain in custody until his next appearance in late November.

Safranko had been released on bail on charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentionally choke a person just one day before allegedly killing his mother.

Up against someone like this, an AVO doesn't help. In fact, it probably made things worse.

Police had taken out an apprehended violence order to protect her from Safranko – it required him to stay at least 100 metres away, must not assault, threaten, stalk or intimidate her.

Sydney man Troy Safranko, who allegedly murdered his own mother, just one day after being released on bail for attacking her, has refused to appear in court.

Initial timeline appears to be something like
  • Friday assault/choking incident at the home of Safranko and his mother. Assume a Provisional (Police) ADVO was laid.
  • Saturday Parramatta weekend Local Court/bail for Safranko
  • Sunday evening Police tasered arrested Safranko at their home crime scene on murder & other charges, took him to Bankstown Police Station and then to Hospital for assessment under Police Guard, then back to Bankstown Police Station.

'Superintendent Hayston had earlier confirmed that police had responded to an incident at the same property on Friday which resulted in Mr Safranko being charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentionally choking a person.'

'Strike Force Panhandle has been set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.'

'He appeared at Bankstown local court on Tuesday where his bail was revoked.

The 31-year-old faces fresh charges of domestic violence-related murder, torture, beating and causing death of an animal, destroying property by fire, breach of bail and contravening an AVO.

He is scheduled to return to Burwood local court on those charges on 29 November.

Safranko also faces two further charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and choking without consent. He is due to face the same court for those matters on 18 October.'

Why do Australian judges continue to let these dangerous people out on bail, early release you name it.
It's school holidays and a long weekend here in Sydney.

Possibly affecting resourcing issues across the board: Courts, Police, Correctional Services, Hospital Psychs.

No words. At a minimum someone who has choked their own ******* mother should be put in a psych facility for a week, this should never have happened.

100 % but unfortunately the health system doesnt people on mandatory psych holds anywhere near as much as it should.
