Does anyone know what is going on with Nathan Ablett at present? I have looked up the injury lists and he isnt on them anymore so what is going on with him at present?

He has been struggling with a couple of niggling injuries, so he missed a week or two and returned through the VFL last Sunday.

Hopefully he comes up soon, because he is a valuable player and important part of our structure.

I posted that his form did not warrant a spot in the senior side and provided evidence of his stats from the first part of the season, compared to later in the year. I got shot down by all of you, and you tried to say that stats weren't everything blablabla. I guess I was right, and you guys were wrong.

Nablett would be playing if he wasnt injured, I think having Hawkins in the team has made a few of us realise that Nablett is ahead of him, and hence important to our structure as we need at least two talls up forward.

So, I guess they were right and you were wrong.

Perhaps Ablett is one of the ones that we have rostered off to get over injuries. I don't think his form warranted a spot, but I don't think Hawkin's form in the VFL warranted a spot either. Bring in Gardiner.

If you heard the broadcast on the weekend, all three commentators stated that Nathan was at least 3 pre-seasons ahead of Hawkins, especially in fitness and the ability to lead up after a chase.

Hawkins struggles to put in second chance leads, due to his lower fitness level. I'm sure this will change in a year or so, however most football followers believe Nathan is in front of the Hawk by a fair bit.

Sure he has been slightly quiet in recent times, however was he carrying this injury ?? Remember that the entire team is virtually kicking goals with the Cats having the highest amount of players over 10 goals for the season.

Nathan when fit is in our best 22.

Did I read correctly bring in Gardiner.
Gardiner is in his last year at Geelong and won't play another game for this season. Gardiner isn't in the same stratosphere potential wise with Nate and Tomahawk.

I think Nathan isn't in the side because, at the moment they think Hawkins is the better choice. That may be because his got an injury but, even if he had an injury I'd keep Tomahawk in for a few more weeks until Nathan stars in the VFL, or if Hawkins plays horribly.

Wow, a medal must be in order for you then

Nablett must play over the Hawk.

He did play ok in the reserves and maybe could be back in this week, we do look a little better with him in the lineup.

Obviously didn't play on your mind much.

NAB is in our best 22, for structure, versatility and skills.

Fellas, fellas, fellas! 11 wins in a row, we shouldn't be arguing about who is right or wrong about whether Nablett/Tomahawk should play or not. If nathan got through the reserves game last week, and is fit, he probably should come in next week to play Freo. He does create space, Mooney is on fire as far as his marking and shots at goal go (Assuming his leg tightness is all O.K) and the rest of Geelong's midfield/small forwards have had no trouble piling on the goals.

Just ride the wave, and enjoy this once in 50-year run of wins. Remember it was 1953 since Geelong last won more than 10 in a row, so we are seeing a sequence that only people over 60 might remember. Just enjoy it!!!!:D

I was at the VFL on Sunday and Nathan Ablett was horrible. There is no way he'll be in this week!!

I would think the delivery in the current senior side would be about as good as one could get, i am sure he'll improve with the likes of Chappy, Gaz Jr, Bartel, Selwood, Kelly, et al pumping down his throat.

I dont believe the reason he is in the VFL is because of lack of form. I think Mark Thompson believes Nathan Ablett needed a game in the seconds before going back to the seniors, just to regain his fitness after his injury. Sure it was only a 2-week injury but its hard to go striaght back into our side atm as we play with such intensity. I think it merely shows that Thompson and the coaching staff are unwilling to have anyone in the side who aren't 100% fit.

I believe that Nathan Ablett will come back into the side, replacing Tomahawk this week in the game against Freo.

If he struggled on the weekend in the VFL he may not be quite over the injury. I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay there another week, though if he is ready to go then I'd say he'll replace Hawkins, without a doubt.

The bloke who mentioned Gardiner must be playing funny buggers. There's a reason he's been in the twos all year!

I'm one of the (apparently two) who support the inclusion of Gardiner. Hawk can't last the distance, Nablett's a bit down, so why not? Keep Hawk, but play him close to goal, while Gardiner can roam the half-forward line.

I keep seeing the "G" word popping in this thread

Nope, wrong. Hawkins is in there because Nathan isn't 100%. Nothing to do with form at all, and there's no way they think Hawkins is more value at the moment.

If he wasn't 100% he wouldn't have played in the 2's on the weekend.
Tom Harley & Steven King have had to wait to get back into the seniors and so is Nathan.
He should play this weekend though, Hawkins was fairly average on Friday night and Subiaco is a big ground, he'll need to run a lot more and with limited fitness, Nathan would seem the logical choice to replace him...

gardiner?
really?
are you taking the *****?
surely you jest - there is no way charlie should play in the seniors again, barring a shocking run of injuries, touch wood. cant mark under pressure, cant get in position, over runs the ball constantly, and doesnt go in hard enough. Please correct me with any statistics to prove I am wrong, but remember - there are lies, damn lies, then statistics.

I have too agree. Charlie is an OK VFL player but cannot cut the mustard at AFL level. Leave him there. Try anyone but Charlie.
C.Gardiner : Age 24, 190cm, 91kg,51 AFL games @ 25 goals

Less than 1/2 goal a game from a 1.9 metre forward is not a good return. H would be a better option than Charlie.
