who do they play?
anyone see the burnie launceston game???

saw the game, was a real tussle for most of the day
Burnie in the end i think can think them selves to be unlucky( plapp kicked a goal that was given a point , it was a goal i saw it with my own eyes ) , i thought they played the at times greasy conditions far better than the blues, wuffy smith knocked up getting the onion , zeke gardham in my eyes was a standout, the blues had a few players down , scott stephens was held most of the day , adrian finch was outstanding a CHF derba lacked accuracy ( although he did steer one through from the boundary on the 50 ) the blues midfield handballed the ball far to much in those conditions and paid the price when it was turnover , cale okeefe was the blues best defender , kurt mckabe was the best midfielder , and adrian finch the best forward, for burnie , best defender gardham although he spent time in the midfiled along with smith , best forward was plapp his work rate and leading is exceptional for a bloke on one leg.

thanks for the old fruit, sounds like would have been a good game to watch. least someone has got near them, would surely start to get a little boring for the boys in blue!

Who's playing well up there at the moment?

How's Scott Matheson performing and where does he play himself?

Tim MacMichael??? Injured or playing??

Matheson has a broken foot, still out injured. Macmichael has been playing i think? been quiet.
Swans not happy

EAST Devonport has lodged an appeal against the sentence handed down to an Ulverstone trainer who admitted striking a Swans under 19s player on Saturday.
Danny Cooper was given a suspended four- week sentence by the NTFL Tribunal on Monday night.

Ulverstone was fined $500.

East treasurer Sue Milbourne confirmed the paperwork was delivered to the league's headquarters yesterday.

The appeal is expected to be heard next week.

Meanwhile, NTFL general manager Ian Wotherspoon has told AFL Tasmania general manager Scott Wade to butt out of the affair.

Wade said on Tuesday he found the sentence "unusually light".

But Wotherspoon said Wade was not aware of all the evidence put to the tribunal so it was therefore inappropriate to offer his opinion.

"He just does not know all the circumstances so it was not very smart," Wotherspoon said.

Wotherspoon also denied AFL Tasmania had any power to investigate the tribunal's handling of the matter.
He said the NTFL bylaws made it clear that the league's own Appeals Committee was the only avenue to challenge the decision, regardless of what AFL Tasmania's constitution said.

PS macmichael had it 37 times on the weekend......i would hate to see what you call a good game!

Greatwin by North on the weekend. What's happened to Devonport to make them go so far backwards?

No leadership on or off the ground. The coach is only training them one night a week. Thats just not good enough. How can Resing call on them when he is only 30% interested. They tell me James Wiggins took them for training on Monday night.

New NTFL team on horizon
BY MARTIN AGATYN

A NEW team from Launceston could join the NTFL next year.
The Prospect Sharks Junior Football Club will field a senior team next year, and is considering entering it in the NTFL.
Club president Kelvin Hayes announced yesterday the club, the largest in the NTJFA with 11 teams and hundreds of junior players, had adopted a senior pathway for its players.
A key element of the pathway includes establishing a senior club at the highest available by 2009.
Hayes discounted joining the proposed statewide roster, saying the club was looking at either the NTFL or NTFA.
"Only invited clubs will be joining the statewide league and we haven't been invited," he said.
Hayes said if the statewide league went ahead and the NTFL lost its three Launceston-based clubs to the new competition, the Prospect Sharks wouldn't want to be the only Launceston club in a Coastal-dominated NTFL.
"In that case, we would be looking at joining the NTFA division one competition," he said.
"But if the statewide league doesn't go ahead, then the best available competition for us would be the NTFL."
If the Sharks joined the NTFL they would become the 12th team, eliminating the need for a bye.
The move to create a senior team was brought about after the Sharks lost players to other clubs once they turned 16.
Prospect applied to field an under 19 side in the NTFL this year, but the proposal was rejected as the NTFL requires member clubs to field teams in each of the senior, reserves and under 19 divisions.
NTFL president Geoff Squibb last night said the league had an open door policy and would welcome a proposal from the Sharks.
"From our point of view, if the statewide league doesn't get off the ground, it would be good for our competition as it would eliminate the bye," he said.

From what I can find out the Sharks have received a lot of funding and help from AFL Tas and Meander Valley Council, shame the council doesn't assist other clubs in it's area.

From their website;
The Club has operated with the assistance of Hillwood FC, AFL Tasmania, Meander Valley Council, Prospect Park Sports Club and the children and adults of the Western Suburbs of Launceston.
Finances – Very sound and good scope to improve – expect further increase in registrations, sponsorships, government grants.

What did Luke French do to get dropped from Launcestons side?

was a disciplinary reason.

although being best on in the round previous, when there is depth @ a club there is no room for disciplinary mistakes from players, you do the crime you do the time.
thats the difference between the blues and alot of other clubs,

NTFL moves to retain big-name clubs
NTFL BY MARTIN AGATYN
12/06/2008
THE SHAPE of the 2009 NTFL competition could be decided by as early as August, despite talk of a statewide league.
With up to five of the NTFL's 11 teams targeted for involvement in the new competition, the NTFL has moved to seek early commitment from its member clubs.
On Tuesday night, the league endorsed a motion at its board meeting requiring clubs wanting to participate in next year's NTFL competition to lodge applications with the league by August 1.
"We can't be worried about what other organisations are doing and their time-frames, we are being proactive in trying to provide certainty and continuity for our clubs from coaching, recruitment and sponsorship perspectives," NTFL general manager Ian Wotherspoon said.
The business plan for the proposed statewide league has yet to be made available to NTFL clubs.
The league's motion means those clubs now have about 60 days to make up their minds about where they want to play in 2009.
Clubs will be able to apply to join the NTFL for 2009 and later withdraw, but Wotherspoon said the league would seek a commitment for applicants to follow their applications through.
"If they apply to be part of the NTFL next year, we would like them to stick to it," he said.
Meanwhile, the NTFL has received endorsements from all other states competing in the Australian Amateur Football Council championship series for its role in the Tasmania v Western Australia match in Devonport on June 1.
The NTFL and the NTFA combined under the banner of Football North to represent Tasmania in the championship series.
An invitation was extended to the SFL, but was declined.
The SFL will be invited to participate again next year, when Tasmania plays South Australia.
Wotherspoon said an application from the NTFL to AFL Tasmania seeking financial assistance for the June 1 game remained unanswered.

roorat,
What other senior football teams are there in the Meander Valley Council area ?
Apart from Deloraine, (ignore my ignorance I am from Hobart)

Last year I was in a relationship with a woman from Hagley and I was gob smacked that a town the size of Westbury does not have a senior footy team

Deloraine and Mole Creek. Westbury haven't had a team since'91 in the Esk/Deloraine association, also in it but since folded were Hagley and Cressy.
Good source of footy information is www.footypedia.com
Prospect Junior clubs seem to get their players from all over Launceston, not just the Meander Council area. From what I hear the coaches are dead serious about their jobs organising pre-season camps and beep testing their players.

Just reading the paper he can consider himself a lucky little chicken to be back in this week, I'm sure the leadership group @ LFC would have wanted him to do more time in the magoos seeing as tho this is not his first offence!!! Lucky for injuries...
My tip is Lonnie by 85 points, derba's goal spree to continue, Stephens out for two months will test the depth of their midfield. Looking for a big game from the Finch Bros. can't keep them down for too long.

Also how good is the game between Burnie & Ulverstone gonna be? Two quality sides in good form.
It's a pitty the devils are playing before hand actually.... when do the 2nds and Ants play?
Just imagine if the Devils played after the seniors..... noone would hang around to support them!
Will be some cracker matchups Mckenna v Rodman, i reckon whoever controls the midfield should get over the line tho. Ulvy 8 ponts
GET TO WEST PARK(after the devils) AND SUPPORT LOCAL FOOTY.
