Congrats to the Lions for winning and making another GF.

But why is the game to be played at Etihad? While this is very good for all old Royboys, surely as the best credentialled side in the NAB Cup there should be some reward with the game being played in Brisbane.

Didn't Merrett look right at home back in defence.

Yeah absolutely dominant. Love watching him hit the packs. Forwards will certainly know they played against him this season.

Also Patful, all class. The ball always seems safe in his hands.

You forget the AFL loves to screw over the non Victorian sides, especially if the Lions are involved. Not the first home final we've played in Victoria. The AFL can talk all the want about growing the game in Queensland but things like this make you realise how superficial that talk is.

I agree that Longer was excellent, really encouraging for the future and a credit to the coaching staff.

Whilst Greeny overplays his hand sometimes you have to love his energy, and he has great balance - he'll be a gem.

Docherty is still struggling with the pace of the game at senior level. Definitely not in my Round 1 team but I'm confident he'll get there.

Richly really is the class of the outfit now, looks in great nick.

It's PFK's conspiracy time!

The AFL purposefully made or game at Etihad to inspire divisions in the Lions fan base, pitting the QLD'ers and the VIC's against each other. Why? Andy D knows we're getting stronger on-field, and hopes destabilizing us off-field will bring us back down.

You can find a conspiracy anywhere.

It was mentioned on the Carlton forums that we had not asked for it to be at Metricon. Don't know if true, but I'm still ok with it being in melbourne.

Competitive matches in melbourne can only be good for us long term.

Doc looks good when he has the footy but he hasn't attacked it hard enough. Wonder if they'll push Ash into the backlines like I think they should.

It's disappointing, would love to be going to the Gabba next week, but it is not available, that's all there is to it.

Really think it is silly people trying to make a fuss over this.

So I take it there are a lot of rich Lions fans enjoying the spoils of $2.50+ tonight? [/Tom Waterhouse]

Thanks for reminding me. I managed to turn $70 into about $170.

As important as it is to make the GABBA a fortress we really need to start playing better at Etihad given it's where we play the second most amount of games at. I think we're learning how to play a bit better now.

Ash has practised all preseason in forward line.
If not Doc, I'll back Harwood. He looked comfortable in the backline late last season. Polkinghorne has taken his spot by the looks of it. Harwood should be the next one added to backline.

ATM I see he forward-line as:

Green Martin Cornelius
Bewick/McGrath Brown [Resting Mid]

I think our half-back line needs one of Hanley, Yeo or McGrath to provide some run. I think Yeo will start in the reserves and Hanley will play more on the wing and I think McGrath should be the "defender" that the Lions try to get free to be the attacking option.

3rd qtr 14.47 seconds in Tom Rockliff goes for the ball, eyes on the ball. Free kick to the Collingwood player who puts his knee into him. This is really bad.

Fortunately this rule will only be around for one more week and I think just our game next week.

Haven't seen any vision yet but great result. Don't agree that we would necessarily have been smashed by a full strength Collingwood. Doesn't always happen that because better players are substituted in that the team performs quantitatively that much better. Anyway, as selected, we weren't fielding our best 22 either. I'm more interested in how our game is coming together and on that score it's all good for me.

Our kids > Their kids.

Simple really, Collingwood clearly aren't coming out of a rebuilding phase and their kids just aren't good enough yet (Also less experienced).

Whilst we had the stronger side in, half of it is still full of kids.

Expected victory, now hopefully the Blues field a stronger side.

With the Gabba unavailable because of cricket commitments, the Lions lobbied unsuccessfully to play the game at Metricon Stadium, but fearful of a small crowd, the AFL scheduled the game in Melbourne, much to the disgust of Lions coach Michael Voss.

"We're the only side undefeated in the end (of the NAB Cup, but) we don't get that chance to play in Queensland," he said after the 34-point win over Collingwood on Saturday night.

"It is very disappointing."
