Preview NAB Cup Rd 3 - Collingwood v Brisbane Lions

TBD, take a deep breath. We are all on the same side here.

Wasn't aware that I was emotionally out of control. o_O

I just didn't agree with your arguments as to why holding the grand final in SEQ is an "unrealistic expectation". If you interpreted that as me somehow launching a tirade against you, that is regrettable.

just that empty seats at a GF, even the NAB variety, are not a good look. That's all.

I suspect if we make the grand final and it is played at Etihad, there will be plenty of empty seats there as well.

Really seems to me the AFL are passing up a great opportunity to profile the game up here. Especially considering how important we apparently are to the national strategy, and considering the market share we recently gave up to the blokes down the road.

Can't help but suspect if GWS qualified for a NAB Cup grand final, you could bet your life it would be played at Skoda Stadium.

Absolutely want the Lions to go out all guns blazing, don't even care if it's half the VFL side of Collingwood playing out there tomorrow night, I want us to thrash them. Looking at their team, there's only 2-3 decent players in their team. I'm revising my previous prediction of Lions by 8 points.

Lions by 80 points.

But if there wasn't a stadium in Sydney available, do you think they'd play in Canberra?

This isn't about and shouldn't be seen as "another game for Vic fans".
If it eventuates, I am happy for the opportunity they've gained.
But for the club and the team, it is a disgusting injustice.
For how long will we be a junior insignificant "interstate" team?
All 18 clubs should be entitled to the same opportunities and rights.

Imagine the uproar if Carlton or more-so Collingwood had to travel to Perth for a home game of any description because the AFL felt like it.

The amount of travel we may have to endure (4 interstate trips in 5 weeks) is a disadvantage in terms of the NAB GF (yes I know we're not in yet and I'm talking maybes) and a disruption to our preseason preparations.
In regard to the NAB grand final apart from the unfairness of travel, we would also be at a home crowd disadvantage.

It may all be premature and to some a storm in a teacup but it is the principle of the thing, its the vibe, its Mabo.:)

I suspected I'd get a response like that. Brisbane -> Gold Coast is nothing like Sydney -> Canberra.

72kms from the Gabba to Metricon.

300 kms from Sydney to Canberra.

Fair bit further again Brisbane to Melbourne.

If we qualified first and West Coast second, I take it you'd have no problem with the game being played at Subi Tom?

Yeah this, happy at the opportunity given to the Vic fans, but the underlying principle that allows it to happen is shithouse.

Well, Gosford or Wollongong then. I feel like my point was pretty clear without breaking it down into kilometres.

Incidentally, I feel like Canberra is a lot closer to Sydney than taking away a pre-season game is to taking away a home final.

Yeah it was clear, I just personally don't think it was a very good one. Happy to disagree. Clearly neither of us is going to change the other's mind.

If you are happy for home ground advantage and a lessened travel load to be gifted to a a team who is seeded below us, more power to ya.

I'd personally prefer us to have the best chance to secure the cup and the associated financial rewards and membership boosts that come with it.

Well, so far on this thread you've said my logic could take away a home final from us, which was incredibly stupid.

You misrepresnted my words, and when I pointed that out you sneered at my argument without saying why you thought it was wrong.

Then you misrepresented my argument again.

I always try to be civil and polite in these discussions. Particularly with active posters.

What a bloody waste of time.

Just at training. The boys have just finished drills and broken up into teams. Looking sharp and lots if talk. More to come

Thanks Bx4

Any sign of which three players will miss out or did the entire squad train as one?

Is there *any* chance of being able to use the 'Gabba should we come out on top?

Doesn't appear so. The Bulls are scheduled to play the Warriors at the WACA next weekend but the Bulls are still a chance of hosting a shield final after that, so there is no chance of Queensland Cricket giving us any use until after that.

From a Lions perspective, the ideal outcome would be for Victoria to win outright and the Bulls to not. That would have guaranteed that the Bulls could not get a home final, regardless of the final round fixtures, which theoretically makes the Gabba available (whether it could be ready in time is another question). However, the Vics are struggling against NSW while the Bulls are in the match v Tassie.

Another option is for SA to win outright and the Bulls to not take any points. That would put SA 8 points ahead and out of reach of the Bulls. SA is probably in the box seat v WA but it is a close contest - no guarantee win to SA there.

Obviously, as a cricket fan, I'd like the Bulls to get a home final. Unfortunately, I think we'll see a situation where the Bulls miss the home final but we won't know that until after the NAB Cup final has been played. Worst of both worlds!

Yeah, clearly the AFL have made their decision already regardless.
