History over the years tells us where there is smoke. The leak has deliberately been put out there. If he wants out for family reasons I understand but doesn't mean we can't all be very upset that he signed a five year deal and wants out after three.

I always revert back to the great Leigh Matthews saying - things are never as good as they seem and never as bad as they seem. Neale leaving will have an immediately impact on the side - but not as much impact as it would have two years ago. He played much better in the finals after being banged up all year but he isn't nearly as damaging as he was in 2020.

If we can get a top ten pick and something else that's a decent result for a 29 year old player. Allows us to continue to regenerate.

I'm not against having a look at Luke Parker - very good player who would keep us in the Premiership window and as a restricted agent wouldn't cost us anything in picks just salary. Whether Parker would entertain a move remains to be seen.

Players leaving the Lions use to really get under my skin in past years but I'm not so cut up about it this time. Feel like the club is in good hands and we have such good young players who seem to enjoy playing with each other.

Might add that going by Fremantle supporters reactions they are not that excited by Neale coming back and costing them valuable draft picks.

Mulling this over all morning and having a look at our list Lachie is nowhere near the top of a list of "Least want to lose players".

Keidean Coleman, Cam Rayner, Jack Payne, Zac Bailey, Brandon Starcevich, Hugh McCluggage, Harris Andrews, Eric Hipwood, Dan McStay, Charlie Cameron, Linc McCarthy all in front of him on that list IMO, and a few more close to him.

The Lachie style of player is probably one of the easiest to replace in a team structure/game plan(unlike KPF ie Hippy/McStay:'() as demonstrated by our great record without Lachie in the side. While the replacement will in all likely hood not be as good a player the overall game structure will remain and could even improve with a player who has more strings to his bow.

Lachie leaving would be sad but IMO he is eminently replaceable.

Parker's unrestricted so Swans don't have the option to match and force a trade. But I'm not getting my hopes up. Still, if we can force the Swans to wreck their cap we should try do so.

So Lions give up 14 + 18 + Neale + 47
get 6 + 8 + 27 from Freo.. so move up picks.
Blues get 18 + Cerra.. drop 12 picks and get a player
Freo gets 14 + Neale + 47 give up 8 +27

If not 14+18 then one of these and next years first

Thats a bad deal. I can see 6+8 for Neale + 14. No way we give up a second first rounder. Neale for 6/8 + an early second rounder (likely next year) should be the minimum. In your trade scenario we upgrade 2 picks but lose a Brownlow medalist - will send the club backwards.

The worst player to lose right now would be Clug imo.

If thats Fremantles offer then West Coast would be crazy not to make a play.

Back end Neales contract for when Kennedy, Hurn, Mcgovern are gone. They could make it work.

Whatever way, the Lions will get plenty for him.
Would be hilarious watching him rip Freo apart at every Derby game...

Lol at the Dockers fans now talking down Neales value, like he is washed up. Funny, the obsession of 'value' in a trade, and making sure you win it.

Its all smoke anyway, if an A grad mid, Brownlow medallist nominates your club especially when you are mid-table, you do it. And the Lions are the kind of club to facilitate player movements. So it will get done. I back our club to do the right thing by Lachie whilst also getting a return that aligns with our 2022 premiership aspirations.

As for Neale, well if a player is only going to give you 3 years - thats the best three you could possibly hope for, flag aside. Will watch him with interest at Freo and hope he goes well.

Tell you what, Neale is doing a great job at trying to create a rivalry between Fremantle and Brisbane. Mad props to him :p Both sets of supporters will be very confused.

Why would we have a rivalry with Fremantle. I find them as irrelevant as St Kilda. The only reason they stick out at all is their purple colouring.

If I were you I would be asking for Caleb serong as a starting point

Freo #8 and a 2022 2nd rounder would do for Neale and 51 and 57 (which combined is a mid 30's pick)

Lions do have potential father-son in Will Ashcroft next year who looks a gun so an extra pick in 2022 won't hurt

Freo would have (assuming they get 6 for Cerra) 6,27,51,57 and the Lions 8,14,18,47,73

Obviously just speculation but...

Ok, just going to indulge this once.

I can imagine the melts on the Freo board, because we most likely draft the very two players their fan base is after.

6. Neill Erasmus (a more midfield version of De Goey without the off field drama).

8. Jye Amiss (KPF that’s a combo of Ben Brown and Bailey Fritsch).

18. Rhett Bazzo (195cm intercepting and rebound defender, good smart kick).

How happy would Hammo be if we got Luke Parker, finally!

You'd take Bazzo over JVR?

Erasmus would be a dream outcome.... although I suppose there's no chance Finn Callaghan falls to 6.

Yeah it ain't happening but it would be very very funny. Would be a bit of a classic Freo too to go all in on trades yet again.

We may ask, but we shall not receive.

Why is Cerra worth pick 6 but Neale isn’t? Cerra could up and leave 3 years into a 5 year contract and not improve at all, meanwhile you’ve got a bloke who’s peaking (literally just won a Brownlow by a country mile).

Looking more likely than not he’s going.
Disappointing but understand too. Hoping we can get one if not two picks in the top 10 of this draft. There are some good players that fill needs moving forward. Also explains the 2 year deal given to Mathieson.
I’m hoping to see Starcevich in the midfield next year. Answerth, Kiddie Coleman or Madden in the backline.
Bailey/McCluggage/Berry/Rayner/Robertson/Lyons/Zorko/Mathieson/Starcevich/ (fitter)Cockatoo midfield options. + we have Eli Smith and Tom Joyce who have yet to have a go in the seniors.
