You just know if Port go for a trademark font it's going to be that naff 'looks like we did it with a paintbrush' one

Edit: I gotta admit that the membership renewal email (if you ignore the co captains) presents itself clean and crisp so maybe there's some hope

I've never understood why some supporters do not like the fist holding a bolt. It looks strong to me. It does have meaning although the club has never properly explained what motivated that idea, which they should have done form the very beginning and have it always available for young members to access and read about. It is a logo with Port traits in it.

^^ This by 100

It would be much easier and more effective to adjust what you have, than to create something new.

This approach would also stop the identity confusion.

What do you reckon we adjust - out of interest.

As I said earlier, would live to know the brief for whatever these drongos are doing....

The lightning bolt is fine - I actually like our original jumper just for the record.

The new logo seems to be a decision just like the jumper change,
Why?

Turn the light off in your way out KT. Good luck at Bunnings in your next job.

Oh boy where to begin?

It’s generic and anonymous. Without POWER splashed across the top of it you wouldn’t know what the fist represented. It could easily be used interchangeably for a team called the Lightning or the Storm or the Fisters. Also whose fist is it? Is it a Greek thing? We don’t know. It’s never been explained and it’s not evident in any other part of our brand.

It’s poorly drawn. The left hand side of lightning bolt is way longer than right side, so it always looks a bit off. There have been many times where the logo was applied to the right of where it should’ve been because they’ve erroneously taken this imbalance into account (i.e. the rectangle is no longer centred), which looks even odder.

It doesn’t work as a stand-alone element. I think it’s the flat bottom, it just looks amputated. See the South Sydney Rabbitoh for a fantastic example of an icon that works just as well in a logo as it does by itself.

It also can’t be used as a mascot (even though we tried with the float). Thunder Power, which is a whole other beast, doesn’t even hold a bolt. His head is a bolt and it’s a different colour. Once again to someone not familiar with us it’s not obvious what either the logo or mascot represents here. It’s not cohesive. TP is so ambiguous that he could easily get a summer job with the Adelaide Strikers.

There’s more but I’m tired.

IT IS ZEUS/JUPITER!

It is not anonymous, it can be used as mascot, and it means "divine", "everlasting", and "first among equals".

Is it? Because I think our mascot is an alien.
Our mascot is really REALLY bad. Zeus is right THERE, holding his lightning bolt, full of power, ruling both the gods and men. We have chosen that thing to be our mascot out of pure and inexcusable ignorance.

P.S.: In Brazil's indigenous mythology, the ruling god is Tupan, the got of thunder. It is the same god. :)

When I first saw it many moons ago, I knew straight away it related to Zeus, but I didn't see the connection to Port.

But then again, after nearly 24 years I missed the shake down the thunder from the sky (Magpies song) angle that bomberclifford just mentioned.

Thunder Power is one of Zeus’ legion of supernatural sperm as a subtle nod to our days as the Seamen.

Thanks for the perspective. The mascot is really not important. If the club outlined the aspects of the logo you may appreciate it a little more. The fist and bolt can be improved. You probably don't like the concept of Powet. I don't see us changing nicknames though.

I admit that I’ve never particularly liked the concept but in addition to that I don’t think it’s been executed well. So in a weird way I kinda agree with you that it could be improved, it’s just that I don’t think it’s worth improving. I much prefer to move away from Power (towards Port Adelaide) as Melbourne have moved away from Demons. It’s not about dropping or replacing it but rather moving it to the background and focusing on the club name instead.

Thomas would have final signoff presumably, but this would be the remit of either the marketing department or the brand committee...both rebrand and recommending to CEO/Board for signoff.
