Lol. Why? The Bomber's list is bloody terrible. No backline to speak of except Saad having a crack. How is he expected to coach such a shit list of players?
Hurley & Hooker are very good when up and going, Francis looks the goods too.

North's list management and recruiting team need to be more creative than they have been. They cant afford to bottom out but they need to get some higher draft picks either for trading or rejuvenating the list with quality kids.
With all due respect to North, which kids have thrived under their development system? Robbie Tarrant is excellent and LDU is showing early signs of bucking the trend but other kids just don't seem to kick on there.
Luke McDonald a case in point, and what the hell happened to Simpkin? Looked like he was going to be a Jade Gresham type early on.

It is a very fair point, but Ben Brown has gone OK.

Scott does seem to strangle creativity out of young players though.

Brown has thrived off a very simple and repetitive game.

Time to go Brad.

Should be Scott but it won't be because the board won't have the balls to pull the trigger given his recent unwarranted extension.

Another unfulfilled year coming up for North.

LOL could replace Scott with Longmire and North with Sydney and that statement would still be accurate

I guess mature aged players have had some of their development elsewhere, ditto Scott Thompson who has been a dependable defender so they can be harder to judge.

From the outside looking in, it looks like some of the younger players are 'overcoached' which can kill some of their natural flair. Will be interesting to see how Bailey Scott goes after his huge debut game, and Thomas as well who is a genuinely exciting type of player.

It was a list he was responsible for. If it's bog standard that's on him.
I don't think he's entirely to blame if North can't attract players, and as for the list he took to the prelims he wasn't there for the build.

Also I'm not sure North are in a position to "bottom out" in the same way other clubs are.

i was going to say. Even with Hooker injured, our backline at the moment is about the only thing not looking like a dogs breakfast.

Also, there is a difference between a terrible list and a list putting in terrible effort.
Semantics, but the talent is there. Just no work rate, structure or semblance of hunger.

Which is why Woosha will feel some heat.

Luke McDonald is desperately overcoached.

They bottomed out enough. Not there for the build? He was there from post season 2009. They went 13th (not his result but he got the pick), 9th, 9th then 10th in 2013. That's low enough to put something better together. He couldn't.

Melbourne couldn't afford to bottom out either - they tried it and went broke as a result, requiring an enormous AFL bailout.

I doubt half the comp could afford to bottom out for any extended period of time

Collingwood, Hawks, Dons, Tigers, Eagles, Crows and perhaps the Blues (since they did and seem to be ok).
You'd want a minimum of 50k members to try it today, and you'd want to be sure they are going to around as members in 5-10 years time as you build.
And they need to be legitimate, fully paid members too. No 3 game, pet, baby memberships.

Without it, you'd risk requiring the AFL to bail you out.

I think the reason clubs don't bottom out is that the Carlton/Melbourne experience has shown it doesn't work. Certainly not in the "finish bottom two for three years, load up on picks and finals and a flag await".

yep
far easier to find players outside or late in the draft now.
Movement is easier. If you can give them opportunity as well, it isnt hard.

I dont think you'll ever see another instance where a club clears the decks and tries to rebuild via the draft over a 5 year period.

Made the final 4 twice.
My bad should have checked but was going on what a north supporter said
He and Cam Joyce built that list, has not developed it. 50% win rate over 10 yrs is enough to make the call that it’s time for change
Thats exactly the view that i have , Scott has been there 10 years and its his list so he cant blame other coaches or the recruitment dept as he would have had an influence into players drafted / recruited. Sure its the recruiting teams job but the coach has an influence into types of players required and the names get run past them as we have seen during draft footage
Brad Scott is a very good coach IMO.

Two prelims with a bog-standard list is a great effort.

Its his List

I reckon the Dees have a few more supporters than North and frankly they've got a lot more money than your average Arden St supporter.

Not having a dig, the reality is IMO the poorer teams can't afford to have a couple of years at the bottom of the ladder.

Cleary finishing at the bottom gives you a better chance at drafting elite talent, saying otherwise is ridiculous.

And if no one wants to go to your club what other options do you have? A team of Dom Tyson's isn't going to get you a flag, sorry.

We know, you guys did and basically went bankrupt and the AFL had to bail out because your mythical rich supporters don't exist, then after you;d wasted enough high draft picks you traded one for Dom Tyson.

And now, after all that, you're stone motherless last on the ladder.

Perhaps your coach is injecting WADA banned substances again?

Actually we traded that pick for Dom Tyson and Christian Salem- he's had a ripper start to the year too.

As for Dom, I'm just glad we were able to find a club desperate enough to take him.

If Essendon can’t get things right the saviour James Hird will be handed the keys by mid season. Let’s face it membership will go through the roof and crowds will flock to the games if this happens. Watch Robbo jump on this and make a big push for Hird.
Well well well......

Reckon Robbo will be barracking for Melbourne come Friday night.
