NFNL Div 3 discussion 2024

Kesici, Keating and Golledge all in the twos. Kesici has gone from premier division seniors in the edfl in 2022 to a premier country comp (GVFL) playing seniors in 2023 now he is ending up in div 3 reserves football. Keating surely isn’t happy about being stuck in the reserves for half a year either. Bold moves by fletch
Who knows the reasons. End of the day they win… good move… they lose… big trouble.

Dropping your captain is a big statement.

Well done to Fitzroy first in. They’ll be hard to beat. Farrant dominated. Going to be hard to stop in the GF

Parade looked to be undermanned with 4 changes. 3 Thursday and Kerr their leading goal kicking must have been a late out it seemed.

Shattered to lose, but very proud of the effort in the last. 7 goals to 2 is no mean feat, and to get back to a goal was an effort we can definitely build on.

Farrant obviously the difference up forward, but we return to Lalor next week with our heads held high knowing that we are neck-deep in it.

Certainly beatable. Will you get any of the outs back?

Mernda comfortably today, sets up a pretty hot preliminary next week.
Absolute cracker game today at Lalor. The surface was magnificent! Both sides threw everything at each other and played it the way finals are meant to be played. If big Kimo comes back in for the preliminary, whoever gets dropped will be stiff as I couldn't pick a player who struggled today. Evans looks like he is built for finals footy GUN!

He's come on in leaps and bounds the last three years big time. Kid can most definitely play footy

Went and watched Mernda v Epping yesterday.
Mernda looked strong and did what they needed to do. The inclusion of Mazzarella obviously massive. Bawden has some strong hands, him Kimo and Crouch up forward can cause some headaches and as mentioned Evans was good too.
Morrison didn't do to much but another game under his belt will do him good, he will have his hands full next week that's for sure.

Mernda looked very sharp. Crouch was
good, not sure how he was in the 2s all year.

The wind made for horrible viewing. 17 to 4 goals down each end. I hope it goes away for the rest of the finals series because it really ruined the spectacle.

Lalor put on a good day but the ground is too small for proper finals footy imo. Very congested due to the thin wings.

You do seem to have a bee in your bonnet about Lalor's ground. Thin wings? Lalor's ground is 5m narrower than Cramer street, and 7m narrower than Whittlesea. Not really enough of a differential to cause additional congestion, unless it is coached that way.

Wind is a pain in the butt and can make for a frustrating watch, but having watched teams across quality competitions score plenty into winds on the weekend, (VAFA Premier and AFL) it came down to the ability to open up scoring opportunities via inboard or lateral movement and overlap run. Teams don't score into the wind when they play too defensively and whose sole aim is to limit opposition scoring. Yes it is Div 3 footy, but the coaching can play into the inability to score into tough conditions.

Lalor ground has held up well. When it got overcast and the lights were put on one light tower didn’t work not ideal.
The second entrance at Lalor was blocked off after previously being open last weekend with such limited parking around the venue not having the second entrance open was just plain stupid decision making.

Just prefer watching finals on big grounds like Epping or Cramer. Even 5-7m alleged difference makes a huge difference in regards to overall square meterage.

NFNL at it's best, shutdown the 2nd entrance ( cut costs less labour - putting the community club fans out again,) they (NFNL) are a circus., at the main entrance absolute traffic chaos, can't believe they don't have to have some traffic management, the streets around the ground are so tight.

Think that's why mernda are hard to beat at home, gotta be at least 20m wider & 20m longer than Lalor.

Traffic management on a Saturday or Sunday 😮 tight arse NFNL are never paying for this! They clearly prefer to leave the community to deal with the chaos.

Mernda were the better side on the day for sure. Epping didn’t fire much of a shot tbh.
But wow the umpiring was horrendous, 1 wouldn’t make a decision at all , 1 made multiple totally incorrect calls across the course of the game.
Hopefully as there’s less games each week , umpire quality gets better.

In fairness - I've been to a lot of footy finals in recent times across a few comps and never seen traffic management or more than one gate open at most venues, so not sure that is reflective of poor HQ decisons (or a first world problem).

The prices of beer however are talking the P155 and entry of around $10-15 for finals probably would support grass roots level footy more.

It's always been a curiosity with overseas friends, Aussie rules (along with Cricket) are two sports where the size of the playing field is not standardised. It does create a stronger home ground advantage in many instances.

The league has zero imagination to raise money besides jacking up league fees, entry fees and beer prices.

That may be the case, but let's deal in facts:

A) affiliation fees were cheaper in season 2024 NFNL than in VAFA 2023 - as highlighted by our committee.

B) finals prices the same - both too high for mind and as stated $10-$15 would be good for local footy.

C) Beer prices too high / no VAFA equivalent.

What were the VAFA vs NFNL prices.

Finals prices are too much. I know people who just didn’t go due to the cost. That’s a shame all round.

Murdoch suspended, so unfortunately not
Young bloke injured in the yellow card incident I'm not sure on.
Other two will have fitness tests I'm sure.

No doubt they'll do everything they can to get up for a prelim.
