Is the footy show linked to the league? Pretty impressive.

Hahaha, Aprils Fools? The NFNL show initiative or think outside the box?

If they tried it there would be a 20-year-old future Eddie McGuire and a LBTQVTRS+ unicorn asking lame questions and trying to promote their own league sponsors and all the work they (cough) do.

Hope they stay left alone by the NFNL, the Clubs seem to embrace them, and everyone here talks about them.

Not great signs then. Unfortunately they haven’t been able to recruit well and the standard of the comp seems to keep rising.

I’m assuming they were hoping Lance was going to do what Mustangs coach was able to do and attract really good talent.

I feel like this was last roll of the dice for the club, if this doesn’t work out where to from here?
Lance didn’t coach he was playing a bowls final

Apparently in excellent shape, he's been preparing for the upcoming boxing fight that's being promoted around town.
Well done to Kinglake Football Club for getting something like this happening to kick off their season. If Eddie Betts and Nev Jetta play for the Stars in that game also it could set a new attendance record for Kinglake in a H&A fixture? Hats off to all involved to create a bit of buzz to start their year.

Chump.

Kinglake coach Dave Florance discusses club’s preparation and goals for 2024

New Kinglake coach Dave Florance is confident his new gameplan is versatile enough to succeed anywhere, while the club’s boom recruit is having a big impact.

Kinglake’s brilliant return to the Northern Football Netball League came to a crashing end last season.
Three straight defeats and an elimination final exit was an unfortunate finish to a year that saw the club win 12 of 14 games to that point and finish third in its first season back in the league since 2007.

New coach Dave Florance has since taken the reins at Memorial Reserve and introduced a gameplan he believes can deliver success anywhere.

“We’ll be attacking but we’ll certainly set ourselves up defensively to make sure we stop more than we score,” Florance said.

“We take every ground as it comes, everyone puts all this thought into ground size and conditions but at the end of the day both sides have to play on it and there’s four sticks at either end.

“But in all honesty, the way we’ll set up and the way we’ll play will be adaptable to all shapes and sizes.

“As much as Kinglake is an advantage, certainly in the heart of winter, the way we want to play has to be transitioned throughout the year.

“That’s where the defensive mindset will come into it, the way we defend the ground.

“We’ll have a potent attack, which I think will bode well on the bigger grounds, so if we can defend and turn the footy over we’ll get into dangerous spots for our forwards to earn their bucks.”

Kinglake showcased its talent by winning eight of the opening nine games and going undefeated at Memorial Reserve.

However, the year ended with losses at Laurimar Reserve, Heidelberg Park and Whittlesea Showgrounds in the minor semi-final against Old Eltham Collegians.

Captain Bailey Robinson finished fourth in the league best-and-fairest and Leigh Gilbert was sixth with the pair, together with Damien Pywell, selected in the Team of the Year.

Gilbert and Pywell both finished in the top-five in the league goalkicking.

He moves into different spots that blokes aren’t used to and when most blokes have tunnel vision he can see around corners and he hits blokes up when they’re not ready.

“He’s imparting a lot of knowledge onto our young forwards and mids, even someone like Damian Pywell he’s picking Shane’s brain every chance he can get, which is what we wanted.”

Kinglake ramps up preparations with a pair of practice matches, starting with Southern club Skye on March 16 and then old Outer East rival Alexandra on March 23.

The Lakers will host Fitzroy Stars at Memorial Reserve on April 6.

I thought we went okay Tim, despite the difference on the scoreboard. It was noted by one of the new guys after the match that many hadn't ever played with each other before so cannot expect miracles in the first praccy match. By contrast, Laurimar looked like that had been together for a while, as they clicked into their system pretty well.

A couple of the U19s from last year showed a bit of fight which was pleasing to see. The guys were pretty knackered afterwards which is usual for the first hitout of the year. They'll be better for the gallop no doubt.

We'll get a bit better indication in the next two matches with a crop of key blokes coming back in, albeit against opposition I know zero about :D
Is one of the upcoming practice matches against Grovedale from the Geelong footy league? Seen it on a local Geelong radio stations facebook page and thought it may have been a typo as it’s a very strange choice of opposition for both clubs

Surely not? Grovedale vs Parade? They could lose by 300
