Footy clubs aren't just that though, they're community leaders.

People want their teams to be something more than that, that's just how people are today. Otherwise the GWS dress up thing wouldn't have blown up like it did.

I'm not saying whether it's right or wrong, it's just the way it is.

When ROB won the Jim Stynes medal for his community work, there was universal celebration.

But when the club celebrates some of it’s community work through their indigenous programs, its ’virtue signalling’ and ‘the club should stick to football’.

Given ROB was dropped for a period last season, should we be admonishing him for his community work and telling him to stick to football?

It’s not an I don’t like it FFS, they should be void of an opinion in the first place, it is my footy club

Why should they be void of an opinion. We have indigenous players and fans.

or more importantly the individuals forming that view on the clubs behalf for whatever reason than I do .

Just play better footy, win a premiership, and let people enjoy the footy is all

How do you feel they would react on the saddest day of the year for Indigenous people that the club puts out a post that they have 5 jobs for Indigenous folk? I felt it was really tacky.

It beggars belief that the same people can't see it for what it is, a club unable to put their best foot forward without sticking it in their mouth first. This was really poor and to make matters even worse, you have one guy wanting to see if he can get someone sacked over laughing at the post and someone else trying to enable the guy to do it.

Feel like we are stuck between a rock and a hard place, I personally can recognise this is a hard day for some of our population but I also would like to celebrate being an Australian and how great we all are on a national day. Why can't today still be a public holiday where we recognise what happened in 1788 and also have another date where we can all come together and celebrate Australia and what it means to be Australian, the last 5 years have been nothing short of awful. The government need to step in and just give us an extra public holiday so that everyone can come together and move on, and look to the future.

We literally started this off with someone trying to get the sanfl to sack someone for laughing at a club post.

You say that but the majority of people want Australia Day on Australia Day and I don’t think it’s even close?

Unfortunately I highly doubt changing the day will have much effect on those people that have a problem celebrating all the great things Australia has achieved on all levels icluding inclusivity, they'll still carry on with their well worn agendas.

As will all the right wing identity warriors.

Extremists on both sides will stay extreme.

But it would be good to find something for the majority of Australians that understand why indigenous people have difficulty with the date, but also want to celebrate what is a fantastic country.
