Never had much of a problem with Sydney, pretty well run joint and inoffensive.

Not sure what it is but **** they’ve turned into a bunch of unlikeable turds. Heads you’d love to punch on each line.

Must admit I enjoyed seeing them turn to water once again.
Same. I've always had a soft spot for the Swans as I grew up in Sydney but the last few years, as you said, they've become really unlikeable. Was happy to see them fail yet again.

Agreed, and I didn't mind the mid-2000s Swans for instance. The French have a specific phrase for punchable heads: "tetes a claques", this Sydney team is stacked with them, their smugness would have been a few extra levels if they won yesterday.

I really enjoy watching high performing teams. Brisbane didnt disappoint at any point of their game yesterday. I hope the Ess group will be enormously inspired by the efforts from the lions.

Brisbane have/had 5 ACLs one of which was Will Ashcroft who came back mid season to win a north smith!
Very good team dynamic and structure. Everyone knew and did their job yesterday. A very well executed game plan. They have built an incredible team. Respect.

Lions are the Essendon team we all wanted and perhaps invisioned having in the modern era and didn’t get close to getting.

Funnily enough I felt sorry for them when they were hemorrhaging talent years ago like Yeo, Docherty then they got McCluggage who looked anything but thrilled on draft night. You could see they were doing the right thing with the guys they were getting. I thought we would race past them but look where things are - I know the academy helps and the AFL not following their own rules on draft night, the Coleman selection who would have given us an elite user in the backline.

They're about to need to find replacements, but it looks like they'll be fine for a while yet.

Zorko 35 < Coleman?
Lester 32 < Doedee?
Fort 31 < ?
Neale 31 < Robertson? Marshall? LAshcroft?
Cameron 30 < ?
Daniher 30 < Morris
McInerney 30 < ?
McCarthy 30 < Brain?

It smells of scummy journalism, maybe Joe has been telling friends and it’s gotten out, but as Fagan said yesterday, “First I’ve heard of it”. Either that or it’s a made up story, much like the Merrett leaving story.
The Merrett one was not made up. Even Merrett is now on record saying there was a discussion with the Saints and his manager.

I feel like Sydney's loss yesterday is going to take years to recover from for them.
How can you come back from that, knowing you play a brand of footy that will get you a minor premiership but invariably gets you smashed in the grand final?
60 points but there must've been 3 or 4 junk goals to the Swans in the 4th while Brisbane were already celebrating.
They were beaten just as exhaustively as in 2022. I would say maybe even worse since in '22 they at least had a burst of energy before half time. This was just witches hats, completely bruise free footy.
I think they would've lost to any other team in the top 8 yesterday.

they have no defensive physicality inside the contest in midfield. almost like the best iteration of a theoretical essendon team. it may be becoming less important, but they got steamrolled inside yesterday. i'd think dunkley was one of the most influential players out there yesterday.

The Swans completely wilted. Mass fumbling, moths to a flame, no cohesion, Blakey trying to clear from defense couldn't kick it more than 30m and straight to a Brisbane player when he had 5 teammates free down the guts. This was Essington playbook when we have expectation on us. Mentally they weren't prepared. Maybe (maybe not) being a little more humble during the season might help with less of a bubble to burst.

Swans only 33 tackles says it all. Swans forward line got smashed. Andrews led the lions marking brigade. Kept Papley out of the game. Amarty and co are bog average and Lions tagged Heeney & Warner out of it.

Lions forward line even on paper was super dangerous and proved to be.

It seems like they carried in too many beat up players again. I thought they had taken a stance of no question marks after they ruled out Mills, but seemingly not.
Early days they looked unbeatable but they lived and died by that midfield with the individuals playing to a level that wasn't sustainable.
Early in the year when they were all healthy they looked fine, because that top line is better than most others.
But they had one forward worth a damn (papley) and their key defenders are poor and as soon as that level dipped they couldn't compete.

They will be fine, their culture of winning is too good for them to just fold into the bottom depths of the ladder and stay there.
