Is Matt Owies actually a good bloke? There's a video of him doing the rounds at the moment where he's talking to a WC fan at training and speaks 'glowingly' about Carlton whilst being filmed. :tearsofjoy:
Maybe it’s because I haven’t seen him play for WC yet but I recon he has every right to slag off Carlton. He kicked 30 goals and they kicked him out the door, even leaked to the media that he wanted 800k a season which was bullshit according to his manager.

I hope he doesn’t prove them wrong at WC.

I'm not sure I believe anything any manager says.

They probably asked for contract that had goal incentives in it that would have made it healthy if he had a really good season (35 40 goals) but if you plug 65 goals into the equation it was 750 K or something. Was never going to happen but in the sly logic of the disengenous idiot it's 'He wants 800k!'

Agreed but in no situation is Owies asking Carlton for 800k pa.

Maybe, but it would also be an issue if forwards have goal incentive based contracts so never pass and have pings from everywhere. Cap management would also be hard.

Good news for the Hinkley haters.

Charlie Dixon will come out of retirement until he does his ankle again.
I thought I read somewhere that Marshall had concussion issues anyway.

It’s a blow for port but I’d imagine they will put their eggs in the Georgiades and Ollie lord basket now.

Dixon looked absolutely cooked as an AFL player last season.

Its unbelievable he still has a job.

Surely hinkley doesn't survive another year
I think he can coach. They make finals plenty and he's never coached a flag because he's never had anything near a premiership list to work with.

I think the opposite, Port finished top of the ladder in 2020 and second in 2021 and (I think) went out in straight sets!

They had the squad (still do) but Hinkley has been repeatedly out coached in the finals by better coaches, he has wasted one to two premierships opportunities and should of been replaced.

He's a decent coach but a proven flat track bully who has a shit record against top 8 teams. We've probably helped keep him in a job the last decade.

The list excuse doesn't wash after 12 years. They traded for Esava and Zerk Thatcher last year and their defence still looks porous.
If it means more Sam Mitchell meltdowns then I'm all for him though

Your second paragraph explains why their defence is porous.
They traded for 2 very average key defenders in BZT & ER.

I'm happy for Port to continue to have a strong H and A and be in the finals. It helps us as they rarely play on the MCG and seem to struggle against strong teams. We have got a very good forward line this year. Prefer them than say Bullies or Collingwood if it comes down to it come finals time. If that means keeping Hinkley, I'll back him in.
