Like it or not, the Dogs are the team to beat for this year's flag.
They definitely aren't going backwards this year. I think the only way to beat them for us will be to play better than we did in the PF.
Seems to me the tactics to beat them are pretty straightforward, every time you get a hand on them in posession they've got to be wrapped up and prevented from handballing. At the same time keeping space to use it effectively, particularly at the clearances. Sounds easy when I say it like that. Their capacity to dispose efftively under pressure is really awesome.
The fact some of their supporters are pond scum, doesn't alter the fact they're a great side to me.

I watched them carefully towards the end of last season, and during the final series. It was obvious during the Elimination Final - when they beat the Eagles in Perth - they were contenders.

They're like all champion teams - they play for each other, and are well-coached. But we certainly have the list to beat them.

:eek:Absolutely we can beat them, and will.
If I indicated a doubt it was unintended. We just have to nail them in tackles. They are an awesome team but we win the competition for awesomeness hands down.

Frankly I dont want to think about it too much until I start to get ready for the trip down to Canberra though. Would prefer to watch us build over the next few weeks first.

So Cam McCarthy must be even more depressed now then he was last year given he's now walked into the basketcase of Freo. They were terrible today V Port.

We get Port after the Showdown. They'll be bruised sore and drained. I'd be shocked if they beat us in Canberra, anythings possible though.
Dont think we'll know for a few rounds their season's prospects. The Showdowns dont follow form and a loss to us after wont be season defining.

Think they started to think turning up was enough get the points, no doubt we'll see a more focussed Bulldogs in a few weeks in Canberra.
Honestly I watched the Showdown and have only watched the 1st qtr replay so far but they started in shicking form.
What I've seen reinforces my view the way to be beat them is attack their ruck weakness and above all else hurt them in the tackles. They're brilliant at disposal under pressure.but no player can do that when they're reeling from the hit.

On a brighter note from round 1 and from AO it's obvious Curtly Hampton is a different player. Still see flashes of brilliance but he's a helluba lot more disciplined and looks to me he'll become the player he should be. I never thought our club was right for him, we had a lot of gifted youngsters and I dont think he wore the discipline thing well.
A different club system that could temper his impetuous play but still allow him to utilise his gifts was always going to suit him better. I think the Crows are good at this and he made the right call to ask to go there.

Obligatory positive free-kick differential always an issue re the Dogs too.

Notable that they suffer a "shock loss" Freo when the the count is even.
